Dear Steele Families,
Colorado schools receive funding based on the number of students enrolled, every student matters to our budget and our ability to serve your family well. When enrollment is uncertain, we face difficult decisions about staffing and programs that directly impact the quality of education we can provide.
You asked how you can support Steele. Here's one of the most powerful and easiest ways: complete early bird registration.
When families register early, we gain critical clarity about our returning student numbers. This allows us to:
Plan with confidence — We can make staffing and budget decisions that protect the programs and teachers your students need
Open seats for others — We can offer spots to families on our waitlist who are eager to join our community
Strengthen our school — Accurate enrollment projections help us maintain the resources and stability that make Steele special
Early bird registration takes just minutes and creates real impact for our entire school community. By registering now, you're not just securing your child's spot—you're helping us build a stronger year for everyone.
Early bird registration opens on May 4th and closes on May 22nd. Here are directions for how to complete your registration.
Check out this week’s Caught in the Act Winners
Have a great weekend!

This is Steele’s second biggest PTA fundraiser of the year, and we urgently need volunteers to make it a success. We encourage all families to get involved:
Act now:
Sell tickets: The Wash Park Home Tour flyer came home in your child’s backpack—use this copy if you need a replacement. We’re asking each family to sell 6 tickets or make a donation. The top class wins a party + extra recess! (Quick note: On Zeffy, the 17% “donation” at checkout is optional—feel free to set it to $0.)
Volunteer: We still need ~70 volunteers, especially house monitors. Short shifts available. 5th graders and older students are welcome.
Plant Your Support! Visit our Garden Sale at the Street Fair to pick up everything you need for a thriving Colorado garden. From summer veggies to pollinator-friendly flowers. Or volunteer to help sell plants here!
If you can give even a couple of hours, please sign up today!

Volunteer: Sign up to help make this event a success! The WPHT still needs approximately 75 volunteers, especially for house monitor roles. Both morning and afternoon shifts are available, so it won’t take up your entire day. Responsible 5th graders, as well as middle and high school students, are also encouraged to volunteer. Please consider signing up today! We know the weekend is busy, we have lots of stuff going on too. But if you can commit to a couple of hours, we know the event will be a success. Plus, you get to wear this vest:

Teacher Appreciation Week |
|
|
The PTA Hospitality Committee has a wonderful week planned to celebrate all of our teachers:
Monday: Jimmy Johns Sandwiches with chips and drinks Tuesday: Lunch from Lazo Empanadas Wednesday: Postinos Thursday: Scoops ice cream cart Friday: Mama Riki's breakfast burritos
In addition, if your student would like to show their teacher or any staff member some personal appreciation for all they’ve done this year, encourage them to bring a homemade card, poem, or drawing at any time during the week. You can also reach out to your classroom parents to see if anything else has been planned to celebrate your teacher and paraprofessional. Here is the link to Steele Staff Gift Preferences.

Pre-Order School Supplies by July 1st!
It's time to pre-order your school supplies for next year! The Steele PTA will be collaborating with 1st Day School Supplies again this year to help our students get the classroom and art supplies their teachers selected to use next school year.
Steele will be using this program as a fundraiser where $3 from every kit sold will go to our PTA. We have included a Donate a Kit button if families want to sponsor additional kits for families that may need one. If you find that purchasing a kit for your children is a hardship, please reach out to your teacher or Ms. Rosenberg to reserve a donated kit.
Thank you for participating in this program! Don't hesitate to reach out with questions to Christy Frerichs or Sara Bogen (christywukovits76@yahoo.com or smbogen@gmail.com).

A bike bus is an organized, group bicycle ride where children and adults bike to school together along a set route and schedule, acting as a safe, active alternative to a bus or carpool.
