Dear TJ Families,
Welcome back! I am incredibly excited to get the 2026-27 school year started! Our faculty and staff are also excited to see your students, and have been working this past week, and in many cases throughout the summer to get ready for this upcoming school year. As has been our mission, we will continue to make TJ THE high school to go to if you want to prepare for college and career. Our work moving forward is to relentlessly pursue opportunities for our students to ensure that they are prepared for college and career. College and career readiness is at the forefront of everything we do so that all students are prepared for the challenges of post-secondary education – be it community college, technical school, or the most elite colleges and universities around the world. While this mission has not changed we also continue to have an unbelievably strong mental health team as well as partner with outside agencies to support the social and emotional health of the whole child. We collating data on how the students performed last year on the PSAT/SAT as as well in our Advanced Placement and Concurrent Enrollment classes. I am highly anticipating sharing how the kids did last year when the information is released publically
As was the case last year, a full Breakfast and full Lunch will be free to all students provided they enter their student ID at the point of sale. Any extra food or snacks that students would like to have must be purchased using their student accounts.

Your TJ Future Center (college advising) is in room 135 across from the Main Office. We look forward to scholars visiting during their off periods and/or with permission from their respective teachers!
Seniors: In your Future Center: TJFC2027 schoology course, you will find many resources to help you with your college planning process. Please review the course updates and calendar at least weekly with your family. (Parents, here is the DPS guide for accessing Schoology!) You will find a list of Scholarship Highlights posted weekly in addition to information about College Rep Visits in the TJFC, College Fairs, major deadlines, reminders about your next steps for college and more! Most importantly, please drop by the Future Center to say hi and ask questions!
College planning tasks from your Future Center schoology to work on now:
• Create your Colleges Considering and Applying Lists in MAIA.
• Be sure to review your Steps for Complete College Applications document. When the time comes, using this document will guide you through the required steps to ensure your applications are completed. Using MAIA Learning, linking your Common App to MAIA, and completing transcript request form(s) are all REQUIRED for all TJ Seniors applying to college!

Hello Spartan Families,
Welcome back! I wanted to share a quick overview of the Career Development programming at TJ and give you an opportunity to partner with us to provide more work based learning experiences for more students. In addition to our Career Xplore field trips and DPS Launch Internships, we added a Build Your Own Internship program to expand our reach. These internships require 30-60 hours per semester for 2.5-5 credits. They are unpaid, but there is college credit available. There are three types of BYOI:
Student Build Your Own: Student generated internship opportunity. The student identifies the partner and crafts the internship in collaboration with the internship supervisor.
Staff Build Your Own: DPS staff create meaningful internship opportunities within their school community. Community Build Your Own: Students earn credit for participating in a community-based internship program that meets DPS criteria.
If you work in a business or organization that would be interested in hosting student interns and helping to create Student BYOIs, please fill out this form (please complete by Wed., 9/2 if you would like to participate in the fall semester). If you work with a community organization that has an existing internship or structured volunteer program, please fill out this form to be added to our list of approved community internship programs. WELCOME BACK!
We can’t believe the kids are juniors already. Time has certainly flown, which means we need to start thinking about fundraisers for their senior year activities (senior sleepout and after prom). Currently, we have raised almost $7,000. After-prom should cost about $15,000, so we have lots to do.

We are having a parents’ meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 7 pm in the Community Room 111 following the PTO meeting. We would love to hear ideas for fundraisers and put together some committees as we look ahead. FALL EVENTS
Mark your calendar now for the 2nd Annual TJ Fun Walk & Run on Saturday, September 26. Registration will begin when school starts in the fall. It’s a fun morning to hang out and take a leisurely stroll (or run) through the neighborhood with other members of the TJ community.
The class of 2028 is responsible for a concession stand at the Homecoming bonfire (Sept. 14 from 6:30-8:30). We will need donated items to sell, as well multiple volunteers to run the stand for a couple of hours. A Sign-up Genius will be available after the start of the new school year.
RESTAURANT NIGHTS
Mark your calendar for dinner out at Chipotle (Colorado & Yale) on Monday, September 21 from 4-8 pm.
Plan on having dinner (or lunch) at Raising Cane’s (Hampden & Tamarac) during our fundraiser there on Tuesday, October 20 (10 am-10pm).
We gathered 600 pairs of shoes during the shoe drive. Thank you to everyone who participated.
HELP OUT WITH A ONE-TIME OR RECURRING DONATION

Welcome Back class of 2029 - Cheers to Sophomore Year!
Last school year was full of new beginnings as our kids started at TJ, made new friends, explored activities, and found their place—and we began our role as Class Sponsors for the Class of 2029. We supported class activities, celebrated our teachers and most importantly kicked off our fundraising efforts with much success. Every fundraiser helped us learn and build toward our goal of providing a fun, memorable After Prom that is free for every student. Please consider donating $29 for the Class of 2029.
