Thank You to Our Sponsors:

Thank you to our generous sponsors! If you know of a potential business sponsor, please reach out to the Lowry PTO!

Message from Dr. Larkin:

Our annual We Are Lowry Night on October 1 was an amazing success. Thank you to our CARES Committee, school staff, PTO, students, and you–our school families–for making the event so wonderful! I love seeing our families come together for community, learning, and fun. We are grateful to be able to host this event each year and look forward to seeing it grow!

Last week we held our first required lockdown drill. Our students and staff followed school safety procedures and everything went smoothly. We will have another lockdown drill in the late winter/spring; we will continue with our required fire drills throughout the year.

In partnership,
Dr. Annie Larkin

Important Dates:

  • October 12: No School for Students
  • October 16: Farmers Market, 3-3:30 p.m. Join Mr. Gibson’s class on the blacktop for their Farmers Market. Cash and credit card accepted.
  • October 19: Butter Braids Sales Begin (PTO Fundraiser). This is our sweetest fundraiser of the year! For every Butter Braid pastry that is purchased, Lowry receives 40% of the profit! Items will be delivered to the school on November 17; flyers will be sent home this week.
  • October 20: Mendocino Farms Dining for Dollars (PTO Fundraiser), 2-8 p.m. Stop by for a late lunch, afternoon snack, or dinner and mention Lowry Elementary (or use code “GIVEBACK” when ordering)–we will receive 30% of the sales! Cherry Creek location only (320 N. Fillmore St., Suite 131, Denver, CO 80206).
  • October 22: Game Night (hosted by the PTO), 5:30-7:30 p.m. Come to Lowry for a potluck dinner, board games, and Minute-to-Win-It style games with Crutch Rocket Sports! This is always a fun evening of community and tons of laughs. This is a free event, but we are asking families to bring a board or card game to play and a dish to share. Please RSVP here.
  • October 25: Trunk-or-Treat (Hosted by the PTO), 3:00-5:00 p.m. Our Trunk-or-Treat is back for the second year! The Trunk-or-Treat will be available to all school families and this year we are adding a few components: 3:00-3:30 will be a sensory-friendly time for younger kiddos and those who may want a quieter experience, and families have the option to host a trunk/table, or just donate candy or trinkets to the cause. If you’re interested in hosting a trunk/table or donating candy/trinkets, please complete this form. There will be a face painter courtesy of the Lowry Community Master Association; the Rebel Cookie Dough & Confections food truck will be on-site, too (the first 100 treats are paid for by the Lowry Community Master Association!).
  • October 27: Collaborative School Committee (CSC) Meeting, 4:30-5:30 p.m. All caregivers are invited to attend our October CSC meeting. An agenda and meeting link will be sent closer to the meeting. You may join in-person or virtually.
  • October 29: Halloween Parade and Parties, 2:15-3:10 p.m. Join us as we watch our students parade around the field in their Halloween costumes! The parade will begin at 2:15, with classroom parties to follow (information about the parties will be sent directly from your student’s teacher).
  • October 30: No School for Students

Academic Updates:

In our ongoing work on writing and comprehension, we spent the past few weeks collecting baseline data for student writing. Instructional coaches and I will be working with teachers on explicit writing instruction in order to support students’ comprehension.

Thank you to Beth Sprake-Jones for presenting at the Coffee Fri-Yay with the PTO last week. Mrs. S-J shared information about Lowry’s literacy program. I encourage you to learn more about our academics at CSC meetings and events such as the Coffee Fri-Yay.

What's Happening at Lowry:

  • A reminder from Nurse Maureen: please pack an extra change of clothes for your student, including students in 3rd-5th grades. Students often need a change of clothes for a variety of reasons, including nose bleeds, spilled milk, or mud!
  • We have noticed an increase in sick kiddos coming to school. When making a decision about whether or not your child could/should come to school, please follow these guidelines from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
  • If your student will be absent, please call the Lowry attendance line or submit an absence request in Infinite Campus or Campus Parent. See our Student & Family Handbook for directions!

What's Happening in Denver Public Schools:

  • McAuliffe Middle School is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat for families on October 28. See their flyer for more information.
  • DPS offers a variety of parent/guardian resources, including an upcoming webinar entitled “Raising Resilient Kids: How to Talk, Set Boundaries, and Prevent Substance Abuse”. Visit this page to find out more information or to view past webinars.
