A Note From Our Principal

Hello Westerly Creek Families -

"The kids don't have school AGAIN?" If this sounds familiar, you may be wondering why it seems like students are always out of school for planning days and what these planning days are for?  Teacher planning days are like 'homework days' for teachers and school staff members. These days allow time for educators to plan and prepare, collaborate with colleagues, participate in professional development at both the school and district level, and maintain and deliver high quality instruction.

Planning days also ensure alignment of curriculum with academic standards, dedicated time to meet and discuss the academic outcomes of all students, to address needs that arise with students and families, and time for educators to manage their workload and reset.

In short, planning days help teachers teach better, which directly benefits students and allows Westerly Creek to keep making a huge impact in the lives of all of our students.

We are appreciative to our school community for your support, understanding and trust in how we conduct school business and for continuing to choose Westerly Creek. For more information on our no student contact planning days, please call the school and inquire with our front office team, or feel free to check out the school calendar on our website.

On Thursday, October 16th or Friday, October 17th (weather pending) our current 2nd graders will be working in the pollinator gardens: planting spring bulbs, cutting back plants and splitting the tiger lilies that have gone WILD!

If you would like to donate any spring bulbs (we are not picky which ones–they are all beautiful!) or would like any of our split lilies for your own gardens, please contact Ms. Mjoen or Mrs. Hollenbach.  Thank you for supporting our mission to spread awareness of the importance of pollinators and helping beautify our school!
