Hello Westerly Creek Families!
At Westerly Creek Elementary, we believe in the power of community. Coming together to collaborate is one of the best ways to strengthen that community bond. The Collaborative School Committee (CSC) is a vital part of our school community; a group of parents, teachers, and administrators working together to make key decisions that directly impact our school. From shaping academic programming to helping budget funds for new resources and setting the WCE calendar, the CSC ensures that everyone's voice is heard.
Your involvement in CSC helps guide how we support our students and creates the best learning environment possible. Every decision made reflects the collective input of our school community, and we want you to be part of that process. Your perspective matters!
We encourage all families to consider joining. Our first meeting will be October 1 at 5:00pm in the WCE library. In this town hall type meeting, you will hear about our school's overall performance last year and have time to ask questions.
Together, we can continue to build a strong, supportive school community for our children.

We would again like to extend a heartfelt 'Thank You' to Rory Scovel & Friends for an incredible evening last Thursday. The Stanley Beer Garden was filled with laughter and joy, making it a truly memorable experience. WCE is immensely grateful for such a fantastic way to launch our fundraising season.
If you couldn't join us or would like to experience an unpredictable stand-up show again, don't miss Rory in Boulder on January 23 for his Know Your Enemy Tour. For more details, visit RORYSCOVEL.com.
We Need Your Support! The WCE community is committed to ensuring everyone's safety, and we need your help. Please refrain from using alleys during arrival and dismissal times. Let’s show respect for our neighbors and prioritize the well-being of all. Remember, if it’s not your alley, please avoid it. Thank you for your cooperation!
Traffic safety during arrival and dismissal
Using alleys for drop-offs or pick-ups during busy school hours creates a dangerous situation for students walking in the neighborhood.
Properly planned arrival and dismissal procedures, which avoid private alleys, are crucial for protecting children and maintaining order.
Private property laws
Since the alleys are private, they are not for public use. Only property owners and those they grant permission to may use them.
Anyone who uses the alley without consent is trespassing.
Vehicles can be ticketed or towed.
Looking to sign-up for an after school enrichment? All Enrichments can be found on the WCE website. Many Fall WCE Teacher Led Enrichments still have availability! Sign your student up for some engaging fun today!
Camp Explore (Ms. Bateman and Ms. Anderson) will be hosting Parents' Night Out again this year. Parents' Night Out will be hosted once per month. Click here to sign up.
What is the BESS ?
In Denver Public Schools, we use the Behavioral and Emotional Screening System (BESS) to screen all students for behavioral and social emotional risk.
It is a short questionnaire completed by students (3rd-12th), teachers, and parents
Why the BESS ?
Proactive and systematic way to determine appropriate supports for students and meet student needs
Screening data is used to provide students with access to appropriate social emotional/mental health interventions
Addressing the behavioral and social emotional needs of our students is critical to ensuring their well-being and healthy development, their access to safe and welcoming schools, and their ability to engage with grade level texts and tasks.
DIRECTIONS:
1. Scan or click the QR code below or follow this link: tinyurl.com/bessoverview
2. Enter your student’s DPS ID and date of birth (MM/DD/YYYY).
3. Complete the screening form.
To learn more, view our Frequently Asked Questions at tinyurl.com/bessoverview
Parent Friendly Overview of the BESS Screening System is another useful guide.
Make sure you have WCE Notifications turned on in the DPS App. THIS IS NOT THE DEFAULT SETTING. You have to manually select WCE in app 'Notification Preferences' to be alerted when your student's teacher posts. Click here for a step by step guide. Still having trouble? Feel free to reach out to wcecomms@gmail.com for assistance.
Don't have the DPS App yet? Teacher weekly updates will be sent through the app (unlike email in the past). Messages will be sent through the app in the Rooms section (unlike Remind in the past). Please make sure you have downloaded the app so you are up-to-date on your student's classroom(s). Click Here for directions for downloading and signing in.
Last call to make your Wolf Pack Pledge! Every single dollar from your monthly per student commitment goes straight to the good stuff (paras, intervention support staff, recess coaches, classroom tech and more).
Pack Perks will be passed out in student's folders next week.
Reserved parking spot drawing winner will be announced next week.
Don't miss your chance to help make magic happen!
