Dear Westerly Creek Elementary School,
Whooooosh! It’s me — Miles the Bronco — trotting in with a neigh of thanks and a huge hoof-clap for inviting me to your annual summer reading celebration!
I had the best time being with all of you — hearing about your favorite books, cheering for kiddos who’ve read so many pages, and seeing your bright smiles as you explore new stories. You all reminded me why I love visiting schools: the energy, the curiosity, and the way words light up imaginations!
A few things I especially enjoyed:
Warm Welcome — From the principal, teachers, volunteers, and all the students — everyone made me feel right at home.
Book Talk and Enthusiasm — I was so impressed by how many of you participated in your summer reading program. Your Principal, Ms. Corcoran, mentioned that 201 students participated for total of 727,852 reading hours. WOW, that’s impressive!
Bronco Gear and Reading Spirit — I love showing up each year and seeing how much school spirit everyone has, as well as the wave of Bronco orange and blue Bronco gear. It is nice to see how many of you love your school and how much you love our Denver Broncos.
Connection to Literacy — It was inspiring to see you all celebrate reading as something fun, powerful, and important to your learning.
I just want to remind all the grownups that Book It to the Creek happens every summer (June-August) as a way of ensuring students stay engaged, preventing summer learning loss, and encouraging them to be lifelong learners.
I personally want to congratulate all the students who were top readers, the grade levels that were the top reading grades, and the top class who earned a biscuit party from Denver Biscuit Company. Overall, YOU were able to raise $22,000 and had one of the largest reading campaigns in Westerly Creek’s history. I sincerely hope that if your student did not participate this year, you will have them participate in when Book It returns next summer.
Thanks for another amazing Book It celebration! I will see you all again next fall when we get to celebrate even more amazing readers.
With a mega neigh of appreciation and Bronco pride,
Miles the Bronco 💙🧡
