Hey WCE Families,
Okay, this is actually happening. We're pulling off the biggest fundraising night WCE has ever seen. EVER! Registration numbers for An Evening in Bloom are through the roof. Now let's make it count!
We're packed, we're ready, and this is going to be unforgettable.
Here's What This Is Really About
Over 18 years we have built something truly extraordinary. A school of 20 different languages, countless cultures, every single unique story coming together. It's the students and families. It's the teachers, staff, and administration. It's every single person showing up every single day.
There's a reason this place works. Teacher and staff retention directly fuels school culture and student success. Currently, nearly 25% of our staff - including teachers, paras, and support staff - have been at Westerly Creek for more than 10 years. That is unheard of and unparalleled! Over the years we've had 5 sets of siblings, 5 sets of parents and children, one couple, and countless lifelong friends working together at Westerly Creek. This isn't just a school. This is family.
Every family, every student, every teacher, every staff member, and the administration - all of us play an integral part in the magic that makes WCE incredible.
But here's the reality: funding for public schools is at an all-time low. Last year, two studies commissioned by CO state lawmakers identified a $3.5-4.1 billion dollar shortfall in state education funding. At the local level, a Tiered-funding model is used to determine per-pupil funding. WCE receives $2350 - $6500 less per student than other nearby public schools. Without additional resources from our families and community, we cannot sustain what we have worked so hard to build. The interventionists, in-class paras, recess coaches, variety of specials, specialists, and support staff who make this school exceptional – they depend on the funding we raise together.
And we're not just trying to maintain what we have. We have big shoes to fill and even bigger dreams. We want to do MORE – to continue building, innovating, and growing the Westerly Creek magic. Just like the theme of Evening in Bloom, we're ready to help our community flourish in new and exciting ways.
Now it's our turn to dig deeper than we ever have before to protect what we've created and to reach for what's possible for every one of our kids.
If you can give, please do. There is no better investment! This is how we go the extra mile for every single one of our kids.
Let's do this together.
Jill Corcoran, Principal and Connie Miller, PTA President
The Original Works Art Fundraiser is happening now! You should have received a custom ordering flyer from your student that will give you all the necessary ordering info through the Original Works website.
Once there, you can order all kinds of products and gifts with your student's artwork printed on them. These are perfect for birthdays, holidays, etc, and they help raise money for the WCE visual arts program!

In this season of giving and great need, please consider signing up to donate an item to the WCE Food Pantry so others can have a Thanksgiving meal on their table.
If your family needs one-time or short-term food assistance, please contact the WCE front desk or use the confidential SIGN-UP FORM here.
Please take a moment to stop by the east main entrance of the school and check for any lost or misplaced items for your students.
Due to the large amount of unclaimed items, we will be bagging up all of the remaining items and donating them after Friday, November 7th.
Reminder to label all items so just in case they get lost or misplaced, our school staff can try to get items returned to students.
Colder temperatures are upon us! There will be days when the weather is cold and students will still go outside for their brain breaks and recess time and we want to ensure all students are able to stay warm!
If you need assistance with winter clothing items, please reach out. We are here to help!

The PTA is organizing the annual Thanksgiving platters for WCE staff!
Please donate here: https://thewcepta.com/donate
We are, again, working with local, WCE-affiliated businesses for this event. The platters include a charcuterie box, created by the amazing So Damn Gouda and Sweet Addiction Toffee, and a bottle of wine, selected by our friends at Mayfair Liquors.
Help us show WCE staff our deep gratitude for everything they do for our students! Sponsor a Thanksgiving platter or bottle of wine for a staff member. (Each $25 provides a platter or a bottle of wine).
Donate by 11/14. Platters will be distributed the week before Thanksgiving break!
The Denver LeafDrop program allows residents to drop off fallen leaves and pumpkins for composting at 5 locations on November 8 and 9, with additional weekday sites open until November 21. Compost created through Denver’s LeafDrop Program is made available to Denver residents for free in the spring! Leaves, branches, and pumpkins can also be added to compost carts. Trash customers can sign up for free compost service at www.denvergov.org/compost.
