Hey TJ!

I hope everyone enjoyed the extended weekend! This week the students will be selecting their courses for next year! We will host a "Choice Fair" on Tuesday afternoon where the kids will be able to talk to teachers about different electives that we will offer as well as with core-content teachers about classes for next year. Teachers have been having these conversations with the kids over the past few weeks in class as well. Here is a link to the Choice of Studies forms that the students will be completing next week. There is no homework for you to do, but take the chance to talk with your student(s) about what they are thinking for next year and check out the forms!

Have a great week TJ!

TJ Families,

This week is our annual Choice of Studies process! Students will be learning about and selecting classes for next year.

On Tuesday, students will have the opportunity to hear from their teachers about their options for next year's classes. We will have an assembly schedule and at the end of the day will be the Choice Fair. Students can go around to all the different tables to hear more about the classes they are interested in so they know what to select.

On Wednesday, students should make sure to be at school! They will pick up their Choice Sheet before their first class in the morning. In each core subject, teachers will be advising students and signing their Choice Sheet. Students will rank their elective choices and get needed signatures for electives as well. At the end of the school day, students will turn in their completed Choice Sheet.

For more information please reference this website or reach out to your students' School Counselor.

There is room for your name on this list! We are looking for a President or 2 Co-Presidents and a Secretary for the 2026-27 school year! Please consider getting involved. Interested? We are hoping to have “apprentices” in place to shadow the co-presidents for the remainder of this semester. The role is much more fun when you have a friend to share it with!  Interested in any of these roles within TJHS PTO next year? Please reach out to us directly at TJHSPTO@gmail.com

We are currently in search of host families for our annual Japanese exchange with Chiben Gakuen in Nara Japan. This year, we still need host families for 9 boys who will be with us from March 1st through March 23rd. If you are interested in hosting a student or have questions, please contact Mr. Jackson at kjackso@dpsk12.net. If you would like to host and do not have a student at TJ who the exchange students can shadow, we have a group of in-building students who will be responsible for them while they are here at school.

Did You Know...?

In the current world, we may feel confused, frustrated, worried, angry, etc. when we encounter someone who has opinions that strongly differ from our own. The question may arise, “How well can we understand people whose life experiences — or identities — are vastly different from our own?”

Increasing your understanding and empathy regarding the other people and their point of view can strengthen connection and community.

Try this:

1. Listen carefully to someone you want to communicate with better, and choose something they said or did that you don’t like or agree with.

2. Now imagine at least two reasons why they might have said or done that thing. Then ask the person to tell you about their experience — and don’t react emotionally to what they say. This is about opening your mind to someone else’s and learning all that you can. Get the data and withhold what you think and feel for later.

3. ow, can you imagine why this person thinks or behaves as they do?

This approach — focusing intentionally, and holding off on an emotional reaction — can be much more effective in opening a line of communication than telling someone they’re wrong (or uninformed or ignorant).

Empathy is not easy, and trying to be empathetic won’t work for everyone. But most of us are susceptible to the pull of empathy because we prefer to be understood rather than disliked or demonized.

LET’S GET TOGETHER

Do you have an hour or two to help the Class of 2028 each month? Maybe every other month? We have tentatively planned a Class of 2028 Parent Meeting for Tuesday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m. We’re in need of more parents to help with spring events and fundraising.

   • Teacher Appreciation Week in May (each class provides lunch one day).
   • Sophomores and S’mores will also be in May
   • Class of 2028 Fun Run – we need to start planning and advertising
   • Upcoming Shoe Drive fundraiser
   • Other fundraising activities

Drop us a line to let us know you’re interested and we’ll let you know what we’re looking for. Email jillkrug@gmail.com and/or kevkrug@gmail.com.

IT’S TIME TO START PLANNING YOUR SPRING PLANTING!

The temperature may have cooled off, but that means you’ve got more time to spend inside planning your summer garden.  The Class of 2028 Flower Power page currently features colorful spring flowers, delicious strawberries, hanging cherry tomato plants and more. You can even buy a seed pack that has everything you need to grow your own salsa. Click on over to check it out.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR A TASTY LUNCH OR DINNER OUT!

Mark your calendars for this Wednesday, February 25 and come enjoy lunch, dinner or an after-school shake with us. Visit the Cherry Hills Birdcall location and order (online or in-person) using promo code TJHS225. Every order with promo code TJHS225 will collect 25% to be donated back to the Class of 2028! The code will be good all day at the Birdcall at Happy Canyon Shopping Center (4996 E Hampden Ave – just up Happy Canyon from TJ!).

HELP OUT WITH A ONE-TIME OR RECURRING DONATION

We’ve got a long way to go to raise the money needed to help put on an amazing after-prom party for the Class of 2028 in two years (yes, just two years away!). If just 100 families donated $5 a month for the next 24 months (that’s $120 over two years), we could have a wonderful after-prom with little additional fundraising. Follow this link to set up a recurring donation.

We have raised about $6,000 for class activities and After Prom.  To put on a great After Prom, we need at least $12,000-$15,000.

One-time donations are also accepted -- $28 for the Class of 28 is a good place to start. Remember, all money raised by these events and donations will help fund an amazing after-prom event during the students’ senior year and a fun event at the end of each school year.

2029

It's time to give $29 to the Class of '29

Give $29 to the Class of '29 and help cultivate community for our students!
The Class of 2029 Class Fund supports class activities each year. If each family gives $29 we get close to our fundraising goals.
