Kudos to senior Ellie Huntsman who was named a DPS Outstanding Female Athlete! DPS honored 14 outstanding female athletes who are highlighted for their excellence in both the classroom and in their respective sports. Way to go! |
Dear Friends,
Every once in a while, I’m left speechless.
It doesn’t happen often, but it did the other day when I interviewed a group of young women from Thomas Jefferson High School who are traveling to Japan this July for an immersive exchange program. This is a remarkable group. Mai, Kay, Makayla, Yasmin, and Leyna are pictured above and have taken Japanese language and cultural enrichment classes for years from Educator (Sensei) Kyler Jackson. Wow, just wow.
Like you, I’m sometimes overwhelmed by work, the news, and personal obligations. My to‑do list is long. But when I meet the students we’re helping travel, everything snaps into focus. I feel energized and purposeful. What the DCIS Foundation does is important work.
At the upcoming Gala, you’ll meet some of these students. Hearing their voices and learning about their goals and dreams is impressive. Trust me, we’re in excellent hands if the students we support are leading us forward.
If you haven’t bought Gala tickets yet, please do so soon because seats are going fast. Information is below. We have an amazing evening planned, and your support is critical to keep our mission alive and enable more DPS students to travel as part of their education.
Best,
Theresa Meier Conley, Executive Director, DCIS Foundation
P.S. Our legendary silent auction is open to anyone - starts April 18! Watch for the email launch. Easy to view without any downloaded application. Woohoo!

Thank you to everyone who showed up to our April meeting. Our minutes can be found here.
Help Wanted!! Our two co-presidents are wrapping up their two year term at the end of this school year and we need someone to take our place for the 2026-27 school year! The job of the president (or co-presidents…much more fun with a friend), is not nearly as time consuming or intense as you may think, and on top of it all, it’s so rewarding to see all of the ways that PTO helps our TJ community! We have one person interested in the role and she is looking for a Co-President/VP to collaborate with!
Curious, but not sure what the job entails? No problem! Here is a brief description of the role: Commitment of Two years, 1-2 hours/week working on the weekly newsletter update and creating the monthly meeting agenda; arrange guest speakers for meetings (4 or 5 per school year); occasionally organize a sign up genius for donations to school activities; 8 meetings and 1 informal end of school year get together; voting; collaborate with auction, Spartan Grant, and fundraising committees. Interested? Curious? Ready to take the next step in this new chapter? Contact Shanna & Melissa at THJSPTO@gmail.com

Vaccines help keep our school community safe, healthy, and ready to learn. As we see measles cases rise across the country, it is very important to make sure your student’s vaccines are up to date. A trained Medical Assistant at the Thomas Jefferson School-based Health Center (SBHC) can administer
all the required childhood vaccines to your student. To learn more about what vaccines your student needs, ask the school nurse, or an SBHC clinic staff member.

Did You Know…?
There is one quick and easy way to help your mental health?
Cutting your social media use to 30 minutes a day lowers:
Anxiety Depression Loneliness FoMO (fear of missing out)
Children and adolescents ESPECIALLY need help with this, as some of their cognitive abilities (such as emotional and behavioral regulation) are not fully developed yet.

5) Help Needed for Prom Prep! Parent volunteers are needed the week before Prom to help our Teacher Sponsors with fun prep tasks like making cotton candy, popping popcorn, assembling stickers, and more.
Help is welcome any day during the week leading up to Prom, and even having two volunteers at a time makes a big difference. If Friday works best for you, that’s great — but nothing is limited to that day.
If you’re able to help, please email Elizabeth Lynch at elizabeth_lynch2@dpsk12.net with the day and time that works for you.
6) From the TJ PTO — Graduation Announcements

HELP OUT WITH A ONE-TIME OR RECURRING DONATION
We’ve got a long way to go to raise the money needed to help put on an amazing after-prom party for the Class of 2028 in two years (yes, just two years away!). If just 100 families donated $5 a month for the next 24 months
(that’s $120 over two years), we could have a wonderful after-prom with little additional fundraising. Follow this link to set up a recurring donation. We have
raised about $6,000 for class activities and After Prom. To put on a great After Prom, we need at least $12,000-$15,000. One-time donations are also
accepted. |
