Political Phishing Scams

Elections are a time of heightened emotions and public interest. Cybercriminals use interest in these events to make their phishing email more effective. Political phishing lures may appear to come from a credible news source or a politician's campaign and reference current events. Some threat actors use them to spread misinformation.

Follow these helpful tips for avoiding political phishing attacks:

  • Look for mismatches between the sender and the expected sending address.

  • Be wary of unexpected links or attachments.

  • Be cautious if an appeal seems urgent or triggers strong emotions.

  • Be skeptical of communications promising to link to revelations about a candidate.

  • Always navigate directly to a trusted news site.

Top 4 Call Out Results

Last week, we asked you to share your best kid quotes from the start of the school year. Check out our top four below!

3. "What did you do this summer?" Student: "ummm... nothing." -- Rothavie Toum, School Communications Specialist

1.“I was sharing my math beetle and said that there are two of us who live in our house. One of my students said, "Where does your husband live?"  I said, "I don't have a husband." Then..."Miss Weathers, how can you have Grace if you don't have a husband?" -- Julie Weathers, Brown International Academy

4.“It's a sunny day! It's a happy day!” -- Andrea Castañeda, Exceptional Student Services

2. “I asked one of my kindergarten students, “What city in Colombia are you from?” He looked at me for a few seconds before responding and he said his grandmother's house because he did not know the city that his grandmother lives in. So I smiled at him and encouraged him because he responded to my question at his level of ability. Later on, as I continued thinking about his response I could not help but smile because of his genuine and honest response. My student is from Barranquilla, Colombia South America located near the Caribbean Sea.” -- Claudia Figueroa, Johnson Elementary School

Program Manager, Equity in Student Discipline
Accountability

"Over the past year, Terri put in (literally) hundreds of hours -- including during June and July when she was technically on break -- in finalizing the new Discipline Matrix. She also took it upon herself to create a website that is being used by district employees. She coordinated work between several departments (e.g., Communications, Department of Climate and Safety, DoTS, eLearning, SPED) while often making me and others laugh throughout a challenging process. She has facilitated countless trainings, met with Board members, presented to DAC and other constituencies all while keeping the main thing the main thing: equity for students regarding their behaviors and how we support them in schools! The new Discipline Matrix exists in large part due to her tireless efforts."
