Career and College Success Month: Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP)

ICAP

The Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) is a process that starts as early as sixth grade to ensure students graduate career and college-ready. ICAP is not just a graduation requirement, it is a series of conversations and course planning that evaluates all aspects of a student’s path to college and their career including: goal setting, college opportunities, academic planning, financial literacy/financial aid and 21st-century skills. Ashley, a Florence Crittenton 12th-grader, shared that ICAP has helped her define and plan her nursing career. Ashley believes ICAP can prevent students from graduating without a plan and can aid students who have not decided on a career.

Top 5 Call Out Results: All-Time Favorite Halloween Costume

Last week, we asked you to submit your all-time favorite Halloween costume and you delivered! Check out our top 5 costumes below and see each spooky submission here.

Pirate Costume

5.“This is my perennial costume. Always a fave.” -- Darrell Hugueley, Hamilton Middle School

Snow White Costume

4.“The year, I was Snow White at Bryant Webster. Normally, I went very dark and goth, but I changed it up that year. I couldn't find a wig that suited me, so I died my hair black.  Not only was I a hit at school, but I also won 1st place at my apartment complex.” -- Judy Straight, Risk Management Department

Michael Jackson Costume

3.“My favorite costume was probably dressing up as Michael Jackson for our Halloween parade. It was fun because it made our annual Thriller dance feel extra special.” -- Addie Howard, Asbury Elementary

Daria Costume

2.“Back when I was teaching high school, I dressed up as Daria from the 90’s MTV cartoon. Most of my students didn't recognize me. I taught mostly ninth grade, so maintaining Daria's monotone and lack of enthusiasm was impossible.” -- April Speights, Communications

Mystique

1.“I'm particularly proud of this Mystique costume because it's pretty impressive although I didn't spend a lot of money or time on it. I literally made it the night before I wore it to the NYC Halloween parade when things took a sudden turn. Long story short, my cousin began to feel unwell, so we ended up in the emergency room. It was nothing serious, thankfully. Imagine this though, a blue mutant with orange hair and glowing yellow eyes trying to be inconspicuous in a white, brightly lit environment. Let's just say I was the talk of the ER and may have broken a few necks that night LOL I never got so much attention in my life! Oh, the joys of Halloween.” -- Joselida Mercado, Human Resources
