Stay Safe While Shopping Online This Holiday Season

The holiday season is a prime time for online shopping -- and unfortunately, for cybercriminals too. They often create fake shopping websites or send fraudulent emails and texts with phony order or shipping updates that look legitimate.

To stay safe:

  • Avoid clicking on links in unsolicited emails or messages. Instead, go directly to the retailer’s website to check your orders.

  • Be cautious of "too good to be true" deals. Scammers use these to trick people.

  • Use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) whenever possible to secure your accounts.

Protect yourself and your family this season. For more tips on staying safe while shopping online, check out these resources.

Growing Our Own: DPS Technology Apprentice

Cruz Rivera, a West High School student, started as an intern with the Department of Technology Services (DoTS). He then continued with the apprenticeship program when DoTS expanded its engagement in work-based learning to include this opportunity. As he enters his second year as an apprentice, Cruz has taken on a leadership role as a mentor for younger students. He is taking a gap year to complete his apprenticeship and will attend DU starting in the fall of 2025.

All DPS departments are invited to learn about youth apprenticeships in upcoming information sessions on Jan. 7 from 10-10:30 a.m. and Jan. 8 from 2:30-3 p.m. at EGC, Room 1015. Contact Diana Casillas Chavez for more information.
