Election Do's and Dont's for All Employees

With Election Day taking place on Nov. 5, we want to make sure all members of Team DPS have the information needed to practice your civic duty while also following guidelines that apply to public employees under the Fair Campaign Practices Act. The most important message we can share is: have a voice and vote! Visit the Election Do's and Don'ts page on The Commons for additional information.

Top 5 Call Out: Fall Favorites

This Sunday, Sept. 22 marks the first day of fall! Whether it's pumpkin spice lattes, chili or a leaf-peeping hike, we want to know your favorite part of fall. Share your fall favorites through this form for a feature in next week's edition! P.S. If you have a favorite photo from last fall (changing leaves, pumpkin patch, etc), feel free to share it!

Poll Results: Would You Rather...

Last week, we asked you to make an incredibly tough decision…or so we thought! By a landslide, most DPS team members would hang up their skis before giving up hiking the great outdoors. Check out the poll results below!

Review Annual AHERA Notification

As we work to ensure our buildings are safe for all occupants, we ask that each building team review the annual Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) Management Plan Notification.

This information impacts all DPS buildings, athletic facilities, maintenance, storage/utility facilities, etc. Please take a moment to review the information and follow any required response, including ensuring that paperwork is located on-site in case of need.

The English and Spanish versions of this notification are included; additional language options and the asbestos management plans can be found on The Commons.

If you have any questions or need a copy of this plan, contact Ben Hale.

Learn Effective Communication Through the Ombuds Office

Now that we are in the midst of another school year, the Ombuds Office is here to help DPS employees with recommendations from our 2023-24 Annual Report, including:

  • Effective communication.

  • Intentionally focus on organizational culture and climate.

  • Provide ongoing support and training to DPS employees.

Each month, topics shared will focus on approaches to support DPS employees with effective communication methods. Topics will include a glimpse into different communication styles and forms when individuals have a conflict. Stay tuned for monthly communication.

For additional information about our support and services, visit the Ombuds page on The Commons.

Living Our DPS Honoree

Darlenne Guerra
Teacher, Lake Middle School
Students First, Fun

"Darlenne has always been an incredible advocate for our MLLs, but in the last few months as we've welcomed many new-to-country students to our school, she has really stood out for going above and beyond to ensure all students feel welcome in our school community. She supports school events, goes out of her way to connect with students and is vocal on staff to ensure all classrooms are set up to support our new to country students. Darlenne is an incredible example of what it means to be students first in her work!

Additionally, Darlenne is a true model of what it means to bring the fun to work! She plays music in the hallways between passing periods (often accompanied by some great dance moves), goes all out for every spirit day and always brings a smile to staff and students' faces alike. We are so grateful to have Darlenne as a Lake Knight of Nobility!"
