Assessment Windows

Dear Educators,

The interim assessment window for third through eighth grade in literacy, third through eighth grade in math, and fourth and seventh grade social studies opened this week. The purpose of the newly-designed interim assessments is to provide a pulse on how students are progressing toward demonstrating proficiency on CMAS. With that in mind, the interims were designed to be closely aligned to the content, rigor, standards and question type covered on CMAS.

Teacher guides have been created for each assessment that include administration guidance for timing, materials, SAY directions, assigning accommodations within Illuminate, and grade- and content-specific considerations.

Teacher copies of each interim can be found in Illuminate under the "materials" section for each assessment. Follow these steps to find assessment materials in Illuminate. Teacher copies include all of the test questions with the correct answer choices, aligned standards and constructed response rubrics and exemplars. Teacher copies are considered secure materials and should not be saved, copied, printed or distributed.

Thank you for your partnership in refining the processes by which we assess what our students have learned and are able to do.

Respectfully,

Dr. Tony Smith
Deputy Superintendent

Top Five Things to Know

The Your Voice/Tu Voz Survey is Now Open

The Your Voice/Tu Voz Family Survey is open now through Nov. 1. Our goal this year is to get 35% of families to participate at the school level. Please encourage your families to provide their feedback through the survey by using this family survey toolkit. The toolkit includes a template letter, social media posts, a flier with a QR code, as well as a survey FAQ and more. All materials have been translated into the eight most used languages.

Getting feedback from our families is important to helping DPS and our schools better serve our community. As a reminder, DPS will administer the survey to families once in the fall and will administer to students once in the spring.

ISA Redesignation Forms Deadline Extended to Oct. 31

The deadline for Redesignation forms has been extended to the end of the workday on Oct. 31. Please note that no further extensions will be granted as we must prevent students from appearing in ACCESS testing rosters. We appreciate your commitment to gathering Reading and Writing evidence for these students who have already demonstrated readiness through this rigorous assessment.

If you have any questions, email SATeamHotline@dpsk12.org.

Complete Required LEAP Trainings

Remember to complete the following training:

  • Returning Teachers: Complete the 20- to 30-minute LEAP Annual Orientation Training in Learning Space to review LEAP expectations and updates. This is a state requirement.

  • Teachers NEW to DPS: Complete the LEAP 101: Introduction to DPS Teacher Evaluation for New Educators training in Learning Space. You do not have to take the LEAP Annual Orientation training. This is an induction requirement.

  • Non-Instructional/Itinerant (NII) Teachers: Complete the 20- to 30-minute NII Orientation Training in Learning Space prior to the start of NII evaluations.

Visit the LEAP webpage on The Commons for more important information and resources. If you have questions, email leap@dpsk12.org.

LEAP Peer Observer Support

Peer Observers (PO) provide coaching aligned with the LEAP Framework and can support using specialty content appendices. Peer Observers are available in addition to (but not to replace) in-building coaching and can also work in collaboration with your in-building coach.

Starting this year, Peer Observers will focus on three priority areas:

  1. STLs at opted-in priority schools (MINE Schools)

  2. Novice teachers

  3. International teachers

What you should know:

  • Teachers from the above groups can self-select or be recommended by the ILT and/or school leaders.

  • ILT/School Leaders may still request PO support with observations, coaching, appendices, calibration, etc.

  • Experienced teachers not yet rated "Effective/Distinguished" may still request PO coaching.

Teachers can sign up for a Peer Observer Request.

GPS Tool Live and Support Resources Available

The GPS tool is now live! Access it through the direct link on the Growth and Performance page on The Commons. If you experience any issues, first review the available resource guides or recorded webinars and then submit the troubleshooting form as needed.

All goals and student growth measures (SLO, MSO and SSO) must be entered into the GPS tool by Nov. 1.
