Dear Swigert Families,
We completed our safety drills today and the students and staff did an excellent job. They were calm and all procedures were followed during the Lock Down and Secure Perimeter Drills. Denver Public Schools Safety and Security team attended the walk throughs and gave us feedback after the drill. I know these are challenging times and I wish we didn’t have to do these drills, but they are our current reality. Let me know if your student needs an extra SEL check in after talking to them at home or if you have any questions.
One of the questions I have received lately is around teacher support and new teacher support - what does that look like at Swigert? We are fortunate to have robust support for all of our teachers and I wanted to share about our model.
Coaching: We have 3 Senior Team Leads that were hired based on their experience and expertise to support our teacher teams. They serve as thought partners, planning leads, coaches and evaluators for their grade level teams. They meet with teams weekly to plan and look at student data. They also provide coaching and feedback on instructional practices and provide guidance for each individual teacher. Bri Cornell serves as our team lead for Kindergarten and First Grade Teams. Tabitha Jones serves as our team lead for Second and Third Grade and Catherine Kline is our team lead for Fourth and Fifth Grade. These Senior Team Leads are also teachers or interventionists part time and have release time to coach and plan with teams. It allows them to continue their own practice working with kids as well as being in a leadership role.
Collaborative Team Support: All of our grade level teachers meet twice a week during their plan time. Once a week they worked with their Senior Team Lead/Coach to look at student data and plan lessons for the week ahead. On the other day they work with our IB Coordinator, Caroline Dane, to plan their IB units. During these planning meetings the teams work together so there is alignment across the classrooms. The majority of our teams also meet daily during this time to plan together, discuss how the lessons went and adjust for the following day.
Dedicated Mentorship: Each new teacher to Swigert is part of a cohort that works with our Swigert New Teacher Ambassador. This time is spent supporting teachers to navigate all things Swigert as well as questions about who to go for facilities requests, color copying needs etc.
Ongoing Professional Development: Teachers participate in regular professional learning sessions focused on our school’s curriculum, instructional best practices, and innovative teaching methods. This occurs on our green days. Because we are an innovation school we are able to flex this time to meet our school needs.
Administrative Guidance: Our leadership team actively supports all teachers, with regular check-ins and an open-door policy. We often pop into classrooms for check ins, instructional guidance or student support.
I am so proud to work with Swigert’s team of educators. We work hard to promote a collaborative and supportive environment. I hope this helps to paint a picture of how we support our teachers at Swigert. If you have specific questions don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you all for your partnership and support.
Sincerely,
Shelby Dennis

4th grader Conrad "Rad" Robinson is raising money for Make-a-Wish Colorado to help other kids have their wishes granted, just like his sister, Pippa. Pippa had her wish granted to go to Disney World, where she discovered her love of roller coasters, dressed up as Mulan in the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique, and met her favorite princesses. We are deeply grateful for our time together as a family and for the joy the trip brought during her cancer treatment. We hope to share that joy with other families by helping to grant more wishes, and we need your help!! Here's a video about the event that Rad hopes you'll watch. To sign up to climb with him or to make a pledge, please use this form. The Climb for Wishes this year is October 18th at Ubergrippen in Denver. Please share this fundraiser with your friends, family, and community. You can learn more about Conrad and the Climb for Wishes on the Denver9 news edition of Kids with Capes.
Thank you!
Ashley & Patrick Robinson
You take great photos every day! We’d love to gather those photos from you this year. Have pictures from the first day walk to school? Halloween party? Field trip you chaperoned? Please drop them into this google drive or email them to Emily Pool (emily_pool@dpsk12.net) and we’ll possibly use them in the yearbook this year!
Hello families, if you'd like to see the Fall Art Newsletter please click here. Thanks!

September’s Artist of the Month is Braylen Banks! Braylen is a 4th grader in Ms. Burdett’s class. Braylen is always so caring to everyone and reflective about his art! Here he is holding a lovely aspen tree masking tape project he made in class. Way to go, Braylen!
DPS Choice has moved up it's timeline this year. This means our we'd love to be able to support our 5th grade families as they start to tour middle schools soon. Most of our Central Park middle schools have tour sign-ups posted. We’ve listed them all here to help put it all in one spot for you! https://swigert.dpsk12.org/middle-school-info/

Students will be voting this week on 1 of 6 movie choices for event!
Swigert International friends, families, and community are invited to Swigert Community Night, where you will receive special discounted ticket pricing for the Rapids home match on Saturday, October 18th at 7pm.

Save the date for Swigert’s Direct Giving Week from September 29-October 3. Direct Giving Week is our Fall fundraiser. Money donated and pledged goes to school initiatives like the IB Program, teacher training, community events, and more.
We aim to raise $100,000 over the course of the week. Each day the kids help fundraise for a bright future by wearing a color. This corresponds to the color they are hoping to earn for their Color Run on Friday, October 3rd.
More information will come in Friday Folders soon, but start hunting for all those colorful jerseys, shirts, hats, etc. in preparation for the week!
Swigert PTA is looking for our '25-'26 Sponsors! Our yearly sponsors play a big part in helping the PTA support the students and staff at the school - helping to fund school-wide events, extra staff, professional development opportunities, etc..
As a thank you we aim to promote all our sponsors in a variety of ways through posted banners, flyers in the Friday Folders, spotlights in the Eagle Post and more. I'd argue there is likely not a better community in the neighborhood to garner company support!
Details about our two levels of Swigert Sponsorship can be found in the flyer here and that came home in Friday folders. If you are ready to become a sponsor you can do so here: https://www.swigertpta.com/sponsorship
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions- sponsorship@swigertpta.com

We will be sharing guardian emails with our room parents so they can launch all the fun classroom communication around class parties, filling Friday folders, and supporting our teachers.
We will also be sharing one email per family for a grade level directory. This will make it easier to families to reach out to grade level friends and families about playdates or birthday parties.
If you do NOT want to be included on either of these lists, please reach out to Emily Pool (emily_pool@dpsk12.net) and we will remove you.
