Dear Swigert Families,
We are in full swing now and enjoying the routine of the school day. Thank you all for your patience and support as we work through these first full days of school. It takes some time and a bit of patience for everyone to get into the routine. Here is a great video Emily Pool created sharing student’s favorite things about the first week of school.
I wanted to invite everyone to our Back to School Night this Thursday, August 28th - BTSN Information. It’s a great opportunity to hear more about what your child will be learning throughout the year and how you can partner with the school to support your child’s educational journey. We will have classroom specific sessions from 5:30-5:55 and 6:00-6:25. There will be two school wide information sessions from the administration from 6:00-6:25 and 6:30-6:55. Teachers will send out the slideshow the following day if you are unable to attend.
One of the areas we could use some extra hands on deck us during lunch and recess. If you have time during 11:30-1:30 and have a desire to help out on the playground or inside the cafeteria please send me an email.
Sincerely,
Shelby Dennis (Shelby_Dennis@dpsk12.net)
Thank you to the PTA and all our sponsors for making the community breakfast such a fun and welcoming event last Saturday. Pearl Market & Wine/Carmella's provided some amazing food. Use the code on the flyer to get a free pizza with purchase. Check out some more pictures from the morning below.
Here's a peek at September's calendar. Find a full resolution printable here: https://swigert.dpsk12.org/about/calendar/
Also, remember to sync your family's google calendar with ours! :)
If you need any translation services for this evening, please reach out to Ms. Tate - (mdonald@dpsk12.net) and we will provide them.
We are excited to invite you to Back to School Night on Thursday, August 28th! This will be a chance for you to hear from your child’s teacher(s) in more depth about the upcoming year. You’ll hear about their schedule, some of the things they’ll be learning, and be able to ask questions!
Teachers will hold 2 identical sessions in their classrooms, one at 5:30pm and one at 6pm.
There will also be two identical sessions in the library for school wide information. We will hear from our admin team. Those sessions are 6-6:25 and 6:30-6:55.
If you cannot attend or have more than 2 students, all the information will be emailed out the following day.
We do ask that this be attended by adults only if possible (and of course young babies)!
Questions, please reach out to Emily Pool, the community liaison, at emily_pool@dpsk12.net.
Picture Days will be here quickly. We're working on the class schedules so you'll know what day your student has their picture taken. We take pictures outside and there will be a full body picture along with some close ups. All previewing and ordering of the pictures is done through Bloom's website.
The picture days schedule will be finalized by tomorrow and I'll send a separate email so you know which day your class has pictures.

For the last decade, our past school secretary Daphne has taken on the role of designing and producing the yearbook for our school. With her recent move, I am looking for a few parents volunteers to come alongside 3 staff members to help make this huge task throughout this year. You would be responsible for helping with assigned page layouts, mostly things that can be done from home on a computer. If you'd be interested in helping me out, please reach out to Emily_Pool@dpsk12.net.
Discovery Link and Little Links wants us to pass on that whenever they send out communications to families they also add them to the website. They want to call out two communications in particular that may help clear up some common questions that are arising with the new system.
Important Changes for Universal Gifted and Talented Testing: The DPS Gifted and Talented Department will be making shifts for Universal Screening to assess 1st grade and 5th grade as opposed to Kinder, 2nd and 6th grade as in years past. Please reach out to Robin Bresnahan at robin_bresnahan@dpsk12.net with any questions or concerns.
Please see the Gifted and Talented Programming Slides for information on Gifted and Talented Identification and Programming.
Our librarian, Ms. S would love you to know that you can access DPS ebooks and audiobooks from school and home. Check out the how-to here:

The recently opened The Denver Village is a new wellness collective located near The Stanley.
They offer a variety of resources for parents. One upcoming event in particular is a free Bullying Resource Workshop. The Bullying Recovery Resource Center (BRRC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the resources, education and advocacy needed to stop bullying and stem the long-term effects that bullying has on its targets. They'll be leading the workshop & you can find more information on them here. See other upcoming events below:
Join us this fall for our first-ever Indoor Wiffle Ball League in Central Park! The South League will be played at Swigert, and the North League will be played at Inspire. Games start in late October with Tuesday and Thursday leagues, and we’re welcoming players from K–9th grades. It’s the perfect way to keep the fun going when it gets cold while building skills and friendships.
Registration is open and limited spots: https://nedenverbaseball.com/wiffle-ball
The Denver Public Schools Foundation is helping spread the word about the Denver Afterschool Alliance’s Youth Program Locator – a free tool to help families find programs and resources across Denver that fit their needs. Search by age, cost, location or type of activity to find options that work for your family. This tool connects families to both options at school sites like Discovery Link, and also connects families to broader community services and resources that support health, wellness and learning.
We strive to have great communication about all things Swigert. Please visit our website at www.swigert.dpsk12.org learn more about Swigert and events that are coming up.
If you need translation services for ANY Swigert event, please reach out to Megan Tate at mdonald@dpsk12.net
You can also join our Friends of Swigert International School, a private Facebook page. We post pictures of events at school, interact as a school family, and you can see friendly reminders of upcoming events.
