Dear Swigert Community,

So many wonderful things to celebrate right now at Swigert! Mayhem has arrived. We hosted our seventh annual school wide Service Day last Thursday. Our students volunteered and supported the following organizations - There With Care, Ronald McDonald House, Project Angel Heart, Balfour, and Judi’s House. Our fifth graders went off campus to different locations including Bluff Lake, SAME Cafe, Urban Farm, and WeeCycle. This day and all of our service work ties to our school mission of supporting students who share a sense of agency for creating a better and more peaceful world. Here is a link to our Service Day Video and a few photos:

I want to share deep appreciation for all the volunteers who helped to create a wonderful and successful auction Saturday Night at the Colorado History Museum. Thank you to our PTA for putting it all together, I know it takes an incredible amount of time, energy and dedication. It was lovely to see and connect with so many families at the event. Thank you all for your incredibly generous support - we met our goal! Thank you, thank you, thank you! The funding allows us to continue our important International Baccalaureate programing, professional development, and staffing model that provides additional social, emotional and academic support for our students and staff.

We are excited about International Night on Thursday. Please join us as we celebrate cultures from around the world and enjoy lettuce and veggies grown and harvested from Swigert’s Community Garden. The event highlights different cultures from around the world as well as our staff and student body and celebrates our school diversity. You can find more information here.

Finally, I want to share a heartfelt appreciation for our Swigert educators this week, Teacher Appreciation Week. Swigert educators inspire me every day with their dedication and passion for their work and the students they serve! As Chris Jones says to his kids “you rock!”

Sincerely,

Shelby Dennis

Registration OPEN for 2025-2026

Yes, you have a spot for next year but the next step is registering with DPS. This is the annual process of providing and updating student and family information on file, including emergency contacts, health information and more.

For the 2025-26 school year, families can complete online registration either in the spring during the Early Bird window (May 5-23) or after July 28.

To register online, sign in to the Parent Portal, click on “See All Apps”, then click on “Online Registration” to verify or update your student’s information. Online registration can only be completed by the parent/guardian listed in the primary household of the student record.

See all the details and walk throughs here: https://swigert.dpsk12.org/registration-2025-26/

Medication Pick-Up

1

Dear Swigert Families,

Thank you for supporting the Denver Public Schools medication policy. Please make sure to pick up all medications and medical equipment used by your child on or before the last day of school. Colorado Guidelines state that medications are not permitted to be sent home with your child.

If your child is participating in a summer program, their medication will not automatically be transferred to the site of the program. It is up to the parent/guardian to pick up the medication from the school and transport it to the summer program site.

REMAINING MEDICATIONS WILL BE DESTROYED AT 1PM ON JUNE 3RD 2025.

It has been a pleasure to work with you and your child this school year and I look forward to next year. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at hoang_tran@dpsk12.net.

Sincerely,

Hoang Tran

Middle School Readiness Workshop

1

Calling all parents of soon-to-be middle schoolers! Registration opens this Thursday at 8:00am for Ready, Set, Middle School, a 3-day middle school readiness workshop for rising 6th graders in the neighborhood this summer.

Nate Paul, who has 15 years of experience as a middle school educator (currently the GT coordinator at DGSN) has designed this workshop to launch kids toward greater independence, foster a growth mindset, and build a ton of practical skills for middle school success. It will be a FUN, confidence-building, inclusive experience. And because it will be held right here in the neighborhood, kids heading to DGSN, McAuliffe, Bill Roberts, Odyssey, Morey, DSA, and DSST Montview / Conservatory Green will likely have a chance to connect with some friendly faces before the big first day.

Registration opens this Thursday at 8:00am.

If a parent consents, the child will participate in a 15-minute zoom session and they will receive a $5 gift card (see the attached flier).
