Dear Swigert Families,
We’re excited to share that our 7th Annual Swigert Service Day is happening this Thursday, May 1st! As an IB World School, we deeply value opportunities for our students to engage in meaningful, real-world service learning. These experiences not only strengthen the IB Learner Profile traits but also empower our students to take thoughtful, self-initiated action in their communities.
Service Day will begin with a special school-wide assembly in the gym, where students will learn about the incredible organizations we’re supporting and hear from two inspiring guest speakers who are making a real difference in Denver and beyond: Jen Perez and Kyle Clark.
Jen Perez is a passionate community activist, small business owner, and former educator who launched the service learning program at McAuliffe.
Kyle Clark is a well-known 9News reporter and the creator of Word of Thanks, a weekly micro-giving campaign that has raised over $14.7 million for small- to mid-sized Colorado nonprofits since 2020.
Their stories will inspire our students to see how individual efforts can lead to big change.
After the assembly, students will head back to their classrooms (or designated spaces) to dive deeper into the missions of the nonprofits they’ll be supporting. They’ll then take part in hands-on service projects that directly benefit these organizations. This year’s partners include:
Project Angel Heart
There With Care
Ronald McDonald House
Judi’s House
Balfour Senior Living Center
Wee Cycle
The Urban Farm
Bluff Lake Nature Preserve
Same Cafe
St. Francis Center
In the afternoon, we’ll wrap up the day with a high-energy Obstacle Course Fundraiser benefiting The Morgan Adams Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research. Grade levels will participate at a specific time in the afternoon. Please look for your classroom communication to see the times.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students grow into compassionate, action-oriented global citizens. We look forward to a powerful day of learning, service, and community!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your support making Pippa Day a special and memorable day for all of us. One of our parents graciously captured the schoolwide heart from above.
Finally, we look forward to seeing family members and staff at our school wide auction on Saturday, May 3rd at the Colorado History Museum. If you are unable to attend or want to bid on items virtually, please check out this website: https://e.givesmart.com/events/FK0/i/_All/#itemvl3w
Thank you to all the PTA volunteers for making this event possible, it takes hours and hours of planning and preparation. We appreciate you so much!
In Partnership,
Caroline Dane, IB Coordinator
The Online Auction is Live!
The online portion of the Auction launched yesterday. Bids/Buys are accepted now through May 3rd at 9:30pm. Not everything is a bidding war! The popular Buy-a-Share parties have set ticket prices and are a great way to build community. Many Teacher Experiences are fun opportunities for multiple buyers/kids. If you love the thrill of a bid, we have great items like summer camps, trips, amazing donations from families and local businesses, and the Grade Level Baskets/Items.
Anyone can create an account and participate. You do not need a ticket to the event to bid/buy online. Use the top navigation to help you find categories and purchase something fun! Items start at $15.
The Auction funds our IB Programming, which includes teacher training, curriculum, the Spanish program, Learner Profile awards, all of the fun provocations, and more! Please consider participating!

Yes, you have a spot for next year but the next step is registering with DPS. This is the annual process of providing and updating student and family information on file, including emergency contacts, health information and more.
For the 2025-26 school year, families can complete online registration either in the spring during the Early Bird window (May 5-23) or after July 28.
To register online, sign in to the Parent Portal, click on “See All Apps”, then click on “Online Registration” to verify or update your student’s information. Online registration can only be completed by the parent/guardian listed in the primary household of the student record.

Dear Swigert Families,
Thank you for supporting the Denver Public Schools medication policy. Please make sure to pick up all medications and medical equipment used by your child on or before the last day of school. Colorado Guidelines state that medications are not permitted to be sent home with your child.
If your child is participating in a summer program, their medication will not automatically be transferred to the site of the program. It is up to the parent/guardian to pick up the medication from the school and transport it to the summer program site.
REMAINING MEDICATIONS WILL BE DESTROYED AT 1PM ON JUNE 3RD 2025.
It has been a pleasure to work with you and your child this school year and I look forward to next year. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at hoang_tran@dpsk12.net.
Sincerely,
Hoang Tran
School Nurse

Get ready for an afternoon of fun, fitness, and fundraising as students tackle an exciting obstacle course—all to support the Morgan Adams Foundation, helping kids fight cancer with courage and hope. All kids will participate (if they want to), even without giving a donation. They will do the obstacle course by grade level in the afternoon.
$5 donation is encouraged - Donate to Swigert’s Venmo or send cash any time during spirit week. If we reach our fundraising goal of $1,000, there will be a staff-only obstacle race - in costumes - to end the day!

100% of proceeds go to the Morgan Adams Foundation for pediatric cancer research.

Calling all parents of soon-to-be middle schoolers! Registration opens this Thursday at 8:00am for Ready, Set, Middle School, a 3-day middle school readiness workshop for rising 6th graders in the neighborhood this summer.
Nate Paul, who has 15 years of experience as a middle school educator (currently the GT coordinator at DGSN) has designed this workshop to launch kids toward greater independence, foster a growth mindset, and build a ton of practical skills for middle school success. It will be a FUN, confidence-building, inclusive experience. And because it will be held right here in the neighborhood, kids heading to DGSN, McAuliffe, Bill Roberts, Odyssey, Morey, DSA, and DSST Montview / Conservatory Green will likely have a chance to connect with some friendly faces before the big first day.
Registration opens this Thursday at 8:00am.
