February 11, 2025
Dear Swigert Families,
Happy Valentine’s Day! There is certainly high energy in the school this week as kids are excited for both the 100th day of school as well as the parties on Thursday. Many of you have asked about the Swigert calendar. As an innovation school we have additional flexibilities and one of those is in regard to how we use our professional time. Swigert typically aligns with most of the Denver Public Schools calendar including start/end dates, major breaks as well as holidays. We do adjust our green days to support IB instructional planning of our IB units and typically start with half days for assessment. We have a calendar committee - consisting of SAC members and teachers- that meets at the end of February to design a few calendar options. The staff votes and we have the final Swigert calendar ready by the first week of March. DPS just released the calendar for 2025-2026 school year, it is linked here.
There are several ways to get involved at Swigert and we appreciate all of your support. Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a committee of parents who support our school in many different ways including planning community events, fundraising- (which is integral in supporting our special programming including our International Baccalaureate Program, Spanish as well as additional paraprofessionals). We are looking for some new members - including an auction chair to help next year, please email Dani Mossburg if you are interested in becoming more involved- dani.mossburg@gmail.com.
Just a reminder that there is no school on Friday and Monday this week, enjoy the longer weekend.
Sincerely,
Shelby Dennis
