Swigert Families,
We hope you enjoyed the snow day on Friday! As part of our IB program at Swigert we have our students engage in presentations of learning each year. This is an opportunity for our kids to share their learning with a wider audience. As part of their Colorado History Unit our fourth grade students shared their artifacts and historical narratives with our third graders.
This week our fifth graders are hosting a Wax Museum. The students choose to research a historical or present day character who has made a positive impact or change on society. dressed as historical figures whose movement has shaped our world and created positive change. Each student will dress up as their figure and will be presenting their life, the challenges they faced, and the lasting impact they made. We look forward to seeing many 5th grade families tomorrow at 4:45.
Sincerely,
Shelby Dennis
Our DEI parent group would like to invite you to listen to the Embrace Race Podcast. It is a fantastic resource for learning about how kids learn about race, and dives into some common myths about this topic. We would love for you to join us on this learning journey! We are in week 2, and you can find the links to both episodes below. In addition we have an optional Google Form for people to fill out to record thoughts and wonderings from the podcast. It can be filled out after any/all of the episodes (or none at all, if you would prefer not to). The Google Form is all anonymous unless you want to self identify.
Here is the link to the third episode:

As I start to prepare our hallways for winter and Winterfest, I'd love to hear from our families. Would you send in a picture of your family celebrating a winter holiday with a short blurb about what it is or why it's important to your family? Or it could be a winter tradition that you love to do with your family. I'd love to include it on our bulletin board!
You can reply to this email which sends to emily_pool@dpsk12.net.
Thanks to the families who have already shared some of their fun celebrations!
Dear Swigert Community,
We are so incredibly impressed with Conrad’s efforts a couple of weeks ago to raise money for Make- A-Wish Colorado through his climb-a-thon. Rad was able to raise $48,000, which is equivalent to granting 6.4 kids a wish (an average wish costs $7,500). We have a lot of students and families that would love to support the Robinson Family and honor Pippa’s legacy in some tangible way - granting wishes is a way to do just that! We would love to be able to boost Conrad’s efforts to grant wishes for 8 Colorado kids who are currently facing a life-threatening disease. Below is a link that will take you to Swigert’s fundraising page:
You can also send in dollars/coins with students starting this week (we will take donations through November 19th). We have Make A Wish bracelets, tattoos, stickers, and stars at school that students can receive with their donation. We will also put the QR codes on our main entrances to school where you can make donations.
We will be honoring Conrad and all of his efforts in a school assembly on November 20th (his birthday!), where we will reveal the total amount of money raised for Make a Wish Colorado in Pippa’s honor. We are beyond proud of Rad and our Swigert Eagle changemakers.
Here is a video that shows how powerful granting a wish can be for families:

November’s Artist of the Month is 5th grader Aiden Saarela in Ms. Adler’s class. Aiden is very Knowledgeable and a great Risk Taker in art class. He did an amazing job with his comic book self-portrait inspired by Roy Lichtenstein. Way to go, Aiden!
