Dear Swigert Families,
I hope you all enjoyed your fall break. Yesterday, we met as a staff and focused on writing instruction, specifically how to engage and excite students in writing and ways to support students in writing about their thinking in math. You can help at home by encouraging students to journal and spend time writing creative stories. We encourage students to see themselves as writers and encourage their creativity through written expression.
As we wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month we wanted to share Swigert’s Hispanic Heritage Video with students and staff sharing who they are inspired by, check it out here:
Emergency Contact Information:
If you are traveling and your kids are staying with a relative, friend or babysitter, please make sure that the school has contact information for the caretaker. In the case of an emergency, early dismissal, missed bus, etc. the school needs to know who to get ahold of.
Also please notify the school anytime someone who is not in the child's contact list will be picking the student up. You can do this by calling the office or reaching out ahead of time to the teacher. If the change is happening on the same day, it is best to call the office.
DPS Your Voice Survey:
The DPS Your Voice/Tu Voz Family survey is now available. This is your opportunity to give DPS valuable feedback. DPS has a goal of getting 35% of families to complete the survey. We know Swigert families can do a lot better than that, so let's show up as a school! The survey can be found at the following link:

October’s Artist of the Month is 3rd grader Harlem Porche in Ms. Nguyen’s class. Harlem is always very Caring, Principled, and Open Minded in art class. She did an amazing job using radial balance, analogous colors, and wet-on-wet watercolor technique. Here she is holding her Flowers and Bugs project. Way to go, Harlem!

The 4th and 5th grade concerts are coming soon on Thursday, November 7th.
The 4th grade will present “Colorado History” and the 5th graders will present “Joy of Music.”
At 5:45 PM, 4th grade students will meet in their classrooms. Their concert begins at 6:00 in the gym.
At 6:25 PM, 5th grade students will meet in their classrooms. Their concert begins at 6:40 in the gym.
Dress for this concert is nice clothes.
This year, Swigert's Thanksgiving Lunch will be held on Thursday, November 21st. Parents and siblings are welcome to join their Swigert students! Thanksgiving lunch is free for students; tickets are $7.00 for adults and $6.00 for siblings and must be purchased by Thursday, November 7th. Please note that tickets can only be paid for with cash (if possible, exact change, please) or check. Tickets only need to be purchased if you want the meal. If you have a younger child who will share your meal, you do not have to buy a separate ticket for the sibling.
You are also welcome to pull any children with a later lunch time to join you and your other child at the earlier lunch time. Please note that we do not have coverage for students who have already eaten, so unless you are going to be with them, they will still have to go to the cafeteria at their regular time, although they don't have to eat again.
Due to the number of meals served, lunch times will be changed, and the schedule will follow at a later date. In the past, meals have begun as early as 10:30 am and run through 2:00 pm.
More details to come!
Northfield Poms Dance Team invites you to join their clinic this October and perform at the Varsity Football game!
Practices are October 23rd and 24th 5:30pm-6:45pm. Dance on the sidelines with the Poms Team and perform halftime at the football game on October 25th at 6pm. Participants will also receive a Poms T-shirt, Pom Poms, and 2 spectator tickets for the game. The fundraising dollars will be used to support the Poms Team with costs for uniforms and competitions, including Poms Team National Competition in Orlando, Florida. We look forward to seeing those dance moves at the halftime show!
