Dear Swigert Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and Valentine’s Day. The school was a buzz with student-created Valentine’s boxes, red hearts and plenty of sweet treats. A huge shout out and thank you to everyone who helped with the activities and parties.
I wanted to share about a site visit that occurred last Wednesday. Our Innovation Zone, the Learning Lab Network (LLN), conducts an annual site visit at each school. They identify outside leaders to come and visit classrooms to provide feedback and next steps. These visits are an important opportunity to reflect on our growth, celebrate our strengths, and identify next steps as we continue to grow and improve. We are proud to share that the review team found: |
- High levels of student engagement in every classroom
- A prevalent sense of joy throughout the school
- Consistent use of academic language by students
- Authentic learning tasks that connect to real-world thinking
- Clear lesson objectives that guide student learning
|
As part of our continuous improvement, our next steps include: |
- Strengthening active monitoring of student progress within lessons
- Increasing meaningful student discourse to deepen thinking and understanding
|
I wanted to share this high level overview with you as we continue to improve our instructional practices at the school level. We are fortunate to be part of an Innovation Zone that provides this level of support and accountability. As part of our professional learning on Friday we dove into active monitoring and planned for next steps in our planning. We look forward to seeing families this Thursday at our Family Literacy Night. Please see details here - Family Literacy Night.
Sincerely, Shelby Dennis |
