NEW LOOK!
We are working with a new platform to ensure everyone gets the Eagle Post. Please bear with us while we make some changes in the upcoming weeks!
Dear Swigert Families,
It was great to see so many families at Back to School Night. If you missed our school-wide slide show you can access it here - BTSN Swigert School Wide Session.
As a school community we are investing more resources and time in our social emotional programming to address the whole child as well as the increasing mental health needs we are seeing in our students. Last year our community raised funds to specifically support extra social emotional supports at Swigert.
We are so incredibly grateful. With those funds we hired an additional staff member dedicated to social emotional supports, increased out calm down spaces to every classroom and every grade level floor, and will be welcoming a social emotional support dog- Buddy- starting in mid September. Thank you to our community, it means so much and helps to meet student need.
At the school level, Kim Irk, our School Psychologist, works with our staff to implement school wide social emotional practices. These consistent practices focus on supporting students in understanding their feelings and providing language and tools to support emotional regulation. Some of our Tier 1/universal practices include restorative justice practices (4-part apology, age appropriate conflict resolution practices), implementing Second Steps lessons as needed, and utilizing the Zones of Regulation curriculum in every classroom. You might hear your kids saying they are in the “Blue Zone” or the “Red Zone” and wondering what that means. This is all part of the Zones of Regulation curriculum which helps students identify how they are feeling and what tools/strategies they might need for emotional regulation. Every classroom incorporates various ways for students to check in with these zones and includes a ‘regulation station’ area if a student needs to take some time to implement tools and strategies to help them with their own emotional regulation throughout the day. (See picture below).
You can view Ms. Irk’s presentation on our current student supports here - there are ideas and ways for you to support some of the practices at home, strengthening that important connection of school and home working together as a team. On our website, we also include specific information on our social emotional programming as well as a presentation we did last year on student anxiety - Swigert SEL
I know this is a lot so let me know if you have any questions or need clarification.
Sincerely,
Shelby Dennis (shelby_dennis@dpsk12.net)

We are so thrilled to be using Bloom School Pictures for our third year! Bloom does an amazing job providing photos for our students and families! Bloom takes photos outside, in the mornings before lunch messiness. This means that we have 4 days of photos. It will be important that you check which day your child's class has photos! Not all grades have photos on the same day.
There is no picture form to send back or preordering. You simply go to https://thebloombeehive.com/swigert
From this page you can review your picture day schedule, sign up for retakes, register for Smile Club (for discounts) and order pictures. If your child is absent on their day or if you're not happy with your child's photos, there will be an Retake Picture Day on Tuesday, October 15th.
Here is the picture day schedule! Bloom likes to photograph outside in the mornings, before lunch messiness. Please check below which day your student will be photographed!
