Your Voice/ Tu Voz Survey
The DPS “Your Voice/Tu Voz” Student Survey is open! Responses to the survey inform decisions on how DPS can better serve all our students. Students in third grade and higher should have received an email from Superintendent Dr. Alex Marrero with a unique link to complete the survey. Students will have the opportunity to take the survey in class on a date designated by the school, however, we encourage families to check in with their children to ensure they completed the survey. If you have questions, email surveys@dpsk12.net.
Swansea Staff Shoutouts
Mr. Jose Velez, 5th grade:
"First of all I want to express the great impact that this teacher Jose Velez had on the life of my son Osneider. He used to be a shy, quiet and often insecure child but Mr. Velez with his effort and dedication managed to strengthen his confidence in him. Today the change is very noticeable, he is a self-confident child who expresses his emotions, desires and even what he does not like.
Not only did he teach him what he didn't know, but he managed to make him someone who didn't exist before, hence my gratitude because you are a fundamental part of my son's life. God bless you always.
Something that he will always remember is the phrase you told him, 'you can achieve everything you set your mind to in life and if you want to reach the nasa you will do it.'" - Lorna Garcia
Ms. Lozano and Ms. Carla, ECE:
"Ms. Lozano and Ms. Carla always show their affection to their children, but they deserve recognition because the last 2 weeks when it was snowing, they were both outside several times removing the snow not only for their class but for the entire ECE side. We appreciate them very much!" - Maria Gallegos
Ms. Lozano and Ms. Carla, ECE:
"I want to thank Ms.Lozano and Ms. Carla for caring about the safety of ECE students and parents. They cleared snow from the sidewalk for ECE students and parents last week. Thank you very much Ms. Lozano and Ms. Carla for your dedication and support!" -Graciela Valles

Globeville, Elyria, Swansea Community Investment Fund
The Globeville, Elyria, Swansea Community Investment Fund (GES CIF) supports people impacted by harmful policies by funding community projects that help build healthy, thriving neighborhoods for generations to come. The fund comes out of the 2015 National Western Complex Authority Framework Agreement which called for a “Community Investment Fund” to be formed to support projects, programs and other community benefits in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The funding comes from “Round Up” dollars, extra cents donated by visitors purchasing items during the Stock Show events. This is the minimum required in the Framework Agreement.
The Community Investment Fund (CIF) was started with an initial $400,000 to build an infrastructure to wait for and administer the annual proceeds from the National Western Center Round-Up program.
The Round-Up (plus a small external donation) yielded $86,000 in year 1. In year 2, it yielded $90,000 that will be granted out in our second CIF grant cycle in 2025.
Last year, the CIF granted funding that was used by the community for:
Resources for early childhood education
A festival celebrating the neighborhood’s vibrant culture
Youth mentorship for food justice & cultural preservation
Advocacy to create a bikeable Elyria and Swansea
Expanding recruitment for the Tenant Group Center
Applications for cycle 2 are now available! A representative from the GES CIF will be attending March 7's "Chats with the Principal" event to answer questions and provide more information. In the meantime, you can visit gescommunityinvestmentfund.org's “How to Apply” page to learn more. Guardians can also email gescommunityinvesetmentfund@gmail.com with any questions about the application.
