The Globeville, Elyria, Swansea Community Investment Fund (GES CIF) supports people impacted by harmful policies by funding community projects that help build healthy, thriving neighborhoods for generations to come. The fund comes out of the 2015 National Western Complex Authority Framework Agreement which called for a “Community Investment Fund” to be formed to support projects, programs and other community benefits in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The funding comes from “Round Up” dollars, extra cents donated by visitors purchasing items during the Stock Show events. This is the minimum required in the Framework Agreement.
The Community Investment Fund (CIF) was started with an initial $400,000 to build an infrastructure to wait for and administer the annual proceeds from the National Western Center Round-Up program.
The Round-Up (plus a small external donation) yielded $86,000 in year 1. In year 2, it yielded $90,000 that will be granted out in our second CIF grant cycle in 2025.
Last year, the CIF granted funding that was used by the community for:
Resources for early childhood education
A festival celebrating the neighborhood’s vibrant culture
Youth mentorship for food justice & cultural preservation
Advocacy to create a bikeable Elyria and Swansea
Expanding recruitment for the Tenant Group Center
Applications for cycle 2 are now available! A representative from the GES CIF will be attending March 7's "Chats with the Principal" event to answer questions and provide more information. In the meantime, you can visit gescommunityinvestmentfund.org's “How to Apply” page to learn more. Guardians can also email gescommunityinvesetmentfund@gmail.com with any questions about the application.
