Staff Spotlight: Nurse Brigette

Nurse Brigette comes from a long line of caregivers and knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a nurse. Her grandmother served as a nurse in the army, her mother was a nurse, and even her late mother-in-law was part of the profession.

Since joining the Swansea team in 2015, Nurse Brigette has aided countless members of our school community, and she’ll be celebrating ten years of service this September.

When asked about the best part of her job, she proudly says, “The kids. I’ve loved getting to know them over the years. Two years ago, I got to see my first group of fifth graders graduate. These were the same kids I met as ECE-3 students. It’s so sweet to watch them grow up, help them, and educate them about health.”

While bandages and ice packs may be the first things that come to mind when we think of school nurses, Nurse Brigette’s role extends beyond that. She helps ensure students are up-to-date on immunizations, coordinates vision and hearing screenings to connect students with glasses or hearing aids, administers medication, supports Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and serves as both a 504 Coordinator and a key member of Swasnea’s Attendance Team. She also mentors new school nurses across the district.

Her dedication to improving the lives of Swansea students is evident in everything she does. But for Nurse Brigette, the most rewarding part is the recognition she receives from the students themselves. These moments can be anything from a quick hug from students on their way to class or a silly comment relayed by a teacher after a student visit. For her, the greatest gift is being a trusted adult for the students she serves with care and compassion.

Thank you, Nurse Brigette, for all you do!
