Dear Steele Families,
Thank you for your patience as we finalized the Steele calendar for the 2026-27 school year. The district requires approval for any additional professional development days we request. This year, certain dates were unavailable for scheduling—specifically, schools were unable to select planning dates near fall conferences. As a result, there will be no fall break this year.
Here is the calendar. The Steele only non student contact days are:
Tuesday, September 22nd Tuesday, January 5th Thursday, February 25th Monday, April 5th
Check out this week’s Caught in the Act Winners
Have a great weekend!

Volunteer: Sign up to help make this event a success! The WPHT still needs approximately 75 volunteers, especially for house monitor roles. Both morning and afternoon shifts are available, so it won’t take up your entire day. Responsible 5th graders, as well as middle and high school students, are also encouraged to volunteer. Please consider signing up today! We know the weekend is busy, we have lots of stuff going on too. But if you can commit to a couple of hours, we know the event will be a success. Plus, you get to wear this vest:

THANK YOU to our Wash Park Home Tour Bungalow & Denver Square Sponsors |

The Steele Mentor program came about a few years ago as a way to welcome new 1st-5th grade families to Steele. While Kinder families have a more established on-boarding process with all families going through a similar experience, there was a gap for families with older students. We are recruiting current families to be Steele Mentors for the 2026/27 school year!
“What does a Steele Mentor do,” you ask? In addition to sharing your energy and enthusiasm, we simply ask that you:
- be a welcoming, friendly face to a family that is transitioning into Steele
- be a resource for any questions they might have about your experience at Steele
Our goal is for Steele to be an inclusive community where all families feel welcome - let's help ease the transition for our new Steele families in the Fall! If you have any questions, email us at steelementors@gmail.com. If you are ready to volunteer to be a Steele Mentor, fill out this form, and we’ll reach out to you with additional information.

Today after school, plan to stick around for a popsicle for HIPPops! You can preorder (select Truck 1) to skip the line. Then head over to the playground by the bleachers to cheer on the Fall Steele Auction winners as they “give” Mr. Ganab, Mr. Trevor, Mr. Schmid, and Coach Welch their pies! |

Our teachers have definitely been feeling the love this week! If your student hasn’t already, there’s still time to bring in a homemade card or drawing today to show their appreciation. The scheduled lunch from Postino’s on Wednesday has been rescheduled for Monday. And just in case, here are the Steele Staff Gift Preferences. |

Pre-Order School Supplies by July 1st!
It's time to pre-order your school supplies for next year! The Steele PTA will be collaborating with 1st Day School Supplies again this year to help our students get the classroom and art supplies their teachers selected to use next school year.
Steele will be using this program as a fundraiser where $3 from every kit sold will go to our PTA. We have included a Donate a Kit button if families want to sponsor additional kits for families that may need one. If you find that purchasing a kit for your children is a hardship, please reach out to your teacher or Ms. Rosenberg to reserve a donated kit.
Thank you for participating in this program! Don't hesitate to reach out with questions to Christy Frerichs or Sara Bogen (christywukovits76@yahoo.com or smbogen@gmail.com).

Does your company have a corporate match program? |
|
|
Double your impact! Many companies offer corporate matching programs that can multiply your donation to the PTA at no extra cost to you. A quick search with your employer’s HR department or benefits portal could turn your contribution into twice the support for our students, teachers, and school programs. Thank you for helping us make the most of every dollar! |

How are YOU going to show up for Steele in 2026–2027? |

Monthlong Beyond the Screen Challenge |
|
|
This is the LAST WEEK of the Beyond the Screen’s Weekly Device and Tech Challenge!
This week is about Balance and “Finding Time for Everything That Matters”
Intention: Balance means making space for play, rest, creativity, movement, and connection.
Read: Check out this Parents And Families section of Letgrow.org, an organization committed to helping kids have opportunities for play and independence-building experiences.
Activity Ideas + Conversation Starters for the Whole Family Independence Opportunity – Allow your child to do one thing out in the world that you usually do. For instance, at the grocery store, let them pay or find items on the list. Or, let them order food for the family at your next meal out.
Talk: What did you think of that experience?
Screen Time Swap – Replace one screen session with another activity.
Talk: How did it feel to do something different?
Organize a Play Date - Consider a “Tin Can” phone that allows you to connect with other Tin Can users for free! Organize a “Tin Can” community within your child’s class or friend group to encourage them to call each other to organize time to play!
Want an opportunity for your kids to connect with other Steele students this Summer? Sign up here to learn more about Summer Play Dates from Beyond the Screen!
Speak Up! The DPS Board of Education is conducting a survey to understand the community's current sentiment to ensure upcoming communications about a new DPS device policy clearly address concerns and questions. Fill out the DPS Device Sentiment Survey. It will be open Friday, May 1 through 5 p.m. on Friday, May 15. The questions take 5-7 minutes to answer and all responses are confidential.
