Welcome Letter from Principal Teresa Klava

Dear Steck Stars and Families,

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! I am very excited to join the Steck team as an interim principal. I am coming to you with a career that spans forty years in DPS. I have been a teacher and principal in grades K-12 at a variety of schools in DPS. I was once an 8th grade math teacher at Hill MS! I am hoping to continue the good work that Mr. Salazar has established in order to support the students, families and teachers through this year of transition to a new permanent principal for Steck. The district will be reaching out to families in the coming weeks with an update on the principal search. Please know that collecting voice from the community is a critical part of the process.

The teachers returned yesterday and are quickly getting their classrooms in order and their new "ROOM" communication up and running. Thank you for your patience as we navigate DPS's new communication platform. We are currently working to get PTSA the capacity to communicate with families directly through the platform.

I have enjoyed meeting families at the Meet and Greet events for New families this summer and look forward to getting to know all families in the coming weeks.

Best,

Teresa

Teresa Sena Klava, Interim Principal

Early-Release Heat Days- Communication from DPS

Steck is one of the schools in DPS that have no air conditioning. To prioritize the safety and well-being of students and staff, DPS may implement Early-Release Heat Days if indoor temperatures become unsafe. In such cases, the decision will be communicated by 5 p.m. the day prior, with notices posted online and through email and automated calls. On Early-Release Heat Days, modified bus routes will be provided, however, families can choose to pick up their children directly from school at the designated release time. If you have questions about Early-Release Heat Days, contact your school.
