Steck Weekly Update

March 27, 2026

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday Steck Families:

I hope this message finds you well as we head into the weekend and into spring break. This past week brought a lot of joy and fun into our school, including the beautiful weather which allowed us to go outside more, kindergarten baking their teddy bear cookies, pajama days, and more. Overall, it was a good week here at Steck Elementary.

One area of focus of mine continues to be on our school culture and showing our Steck STARS traits every day. We are continuing to teach and encourage our kids to be kind, be supportive, and be safe.  I personally ask that you talk about this at home as well, as our actions and our words can have a big impact on other students and on our school culture as a whole - both in a positive way and in a negative way.

I also want to highlight our new morning entrance plan that will start Monday, April 6. You should have received a separate email from the main office sharing these details. Starting after spring break, we will begin lining up outside and will enter as a class with our classroom teacher.  I believe this will help strengthen our school culture and school community as a whole.

Have a restful spring break, and for those traveling, I wish you safe travels.  We will see you on Monday, April 6th by 7:30am.

Best,

Ken Burdette

Steck Elementary: Morning Entrance Plan - BeginningApril 6th

We are changing to an outside line-up in the morning starting Monday, April 6th.

Students line up in their designated grade-level areas as marked on the map in the white squares. Students may begin lining up as early as 7:20am. Steck will provide staff supervision outside starting at 7:20am with a rotation of teachers each week. The bell will ring at 7:30am, which is when the teachers will transition the students into the building. Please note 7:30am is the official start time at Steck.

For a more efficient and organized arrival process, we will have a cone set up for each classroom teacher. This is where the students will line up each morning as they wait for their teacher.

Students and parents will have the ability to interact with other students and parents before 7:30 am. Parents will be able to see their child line up and enter the building with the classroom teacher. Students learn independence by lining up on their own - Parents do not need to come into the school with the student(s). This process will make the transition into the school more efficient and organized while giving the opportunity to strengthen our school community.

It is common practice for parents to connect with teachers briefly in the morning at line-up time. This can be a quick “hello”, “good morning”, or a very brief question.  However, this is not the time for a parent teacher conference or a space to discuss sensitive information. Teachers have planning time before and after school and are available to meet by appointment. Please schedule meetings by emailing the teacher.

*It is also important to note that if your teacher is not on duty that morning, she may not be outside until 7:29am to greet the students for a 7:30am entrance.

Students who arrive after 7:35am are tardy. If you arrive after your child's class has come inside, please proceed to the front doors for entry and a tardy pass.
