Dear Steck Families,

October is off to a busy and exciting start! We have several important events and opportunities coming up that we’d love for you to be part of. Please take a moment to review this week’s key updates:

Parent-Teacher Conferences – Thursday, October 9

Parent-Teacher Conferences are an essential time to connect, celebrate your child’s progress, and set goals for continued growth.

Date: Thursday, October 9
Time: 3:00–7:00 p.m.

All Specials teachers, Student Support Teachers, and Special Education staff will be available on October 9. Some conferences may be scheduled at different times to accommodate family needs. Please watch for communication from your child’s teacher and reach out with any questions.

PTSA Meeting
Date: Monday, October 7
Time: 7:45–8:45 a.m.
Location: Steck Auditorium
We encourage all families to attend and stay involved in our school community.

Volunteer Training Sessions
Dates:

  • Friday, October 6 at 7:45 a.m.

  • Tuesday, October 10 at 7:45 a.m.
    Location: Cafeteria
    If you’re interested in volunteering but can’t attend these sessions, please contact Mrs. Klava at
    tklava@dpsk12.net to arrange an alternate time.

No School – Monday, October 13
Reminder: There will be no school for students on October 13 due to a Comp Day for teachers. The school building will be closed.

Electronics Policy Reminder

As outlined in the 2024–25 Steck Family Handbook (currently being revised for 2025-26  publication), students may not use cell phones, smartwatches, or other internet-connected devices during school hours.

  • Devices must be turned off and kept in backpacks or lockers.

  • Phone access is provided at school for students who need it with the teacher’s permission. 

  • Smartwatches should not be used for texting, calls, or apps during school hours.

  • Steck is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged devices while on school property.

We also kindly ask that parents limit cell phone use while in the building, especially in classrooms and hallways.

Help Welcome New Families for the 2026-27 school year – Tour Volunteers Needed

We're kicking off tours for families considering Steck for the 2025–26 school year, and we’d love your help!

Tour Time: 8:30–9:30 a.m.
Volunteer Role: Assist Mrs. Klava with tours and help showcase the amazing Steck community.
