Dear Steck Stars and Families,
October is a wonderful time of year at our school! The leaves are changing, routines are well established, and students are engaged in meaningful learning every day. It's been a joy to watch their confidence and independence grow as we move deeper into the school year.
This month brings several exciting events and opportunities to connect. One of the most important is our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences. These meetings are a valuable time to discuss your child’s progress, celebrate successes, and set goals for continued growth. We encourage all families to attend and partner with us in supporting your child's education. We want to be as flexible as possible with families’ schedules, so we will hold conferences on Thursday, October 9th from 3:00–7:00 p.m.
All Specials teachers, Student Support Teachers, and Special Education staff will be available on October 9th. Some conferences may be scheduled at different times to accommodate individual family needs. Please monitor communication from your child’s teachers and reach out directly with any questions.
Reminder: October 13th is a Comp Day for teachers—there will be no school for students, and the building will be closed.
We’re also excited to share that we’ve recently welcomed several new staff members to Steck. We are pleased to announce that Mr. Jeff Drew has accepted a permanent position as Steck’s Special Education teacher. He began the year with us in an itinerant role, and we are thrilled to officially welcome him to the team!
In September, we also welcomed two new paraprofessionals—Brooke Kupsche in ECE and Kira Koehler, supporting 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. In October, we will be adding two additional paraprofessional positions: one to support grades K–1 and another for grades 3–5. These dedicated individuals are already making a positive impact in our classrooms, and we’re excited to have them as part of our school community!
A big thank you to our amazing school volunteers! Your time and energy make a real difference in creating a warm, welcoming, and enriching environment for all students. Whether you're helping in classrooms, the library, or at school events—your support is deeply appreciated.
We have upcoming Volunteer Training Sessions on October 6th at 7:45 a.m. and October 10th at 7:45 a.m. If you are interested, and these times don’t work for you, please email me at tklava@dpsk12.net.
Thank you,
Mrs. Teresa Sena Klava, Interim Principal
