Assessment Day, FRIDAY, September 5th

Friday, September 5 is our first Assessment Day. The purpose of the day is to gather important student diagnostic data to help staff determine instructional support for students. During the day, we ask families to bring in their students for 1-to-1 or small group testing in 2-hour blocks. Those blocks will be designed to assess their students in either literacy or math. Students will be assigned a testing window based on the format below:

7:30-9:30 Students with A-L Last Names

9:40-11:40 Students with M-Z Last Names

We will not have a Soft Start on this day. Staff will be outside at 7:30am and 9:40am to pick up students and escort them inside for testing. Staff will also be walking students out at 9:30am and 11:40 am. Students will stay at Steck for the entire 2-hour block of time.

Discovery Link (DL) will partner with Steck to offer a full day camp on that day for students REGISTERED for September DL ONLY. Registered Families, please look for an email to register for this day.

Finally, Parents please remember that the staff parking lot should NOT be used as a drop off spot for your child. There are many students walking and bike-riding into school that cross through the staff lot. For everyone's safety, please use our Kiss and Drop lane at the front of the school.

Thank you,

Mrs. Klava

Technology Update

Dear Steck Community,

We're writing to let you know about an important update - the student Chromebook device agreement for the 2025-26 school year has updated fees reflecting replacement costs for lost technology equipment and for any tech equipment that is damaged and can't be claimed under warranty. The rules about how to take care of the Chromebook haven't changed.

Please view the current device agreement so you are fully aware of this updated information. No additional action is needed at this time.

We also encourage you to talk with your student about how important it is to take care of the technology they're provided to support and enhance their learning and education.

Nurse's News

Reminder from the Nurse's Corner: Please be sure to submit immunization paperwork for your child if we do not already have it on file. Those families who choose to not immunize will need to fill out this module as soon as possible to generate a certificate of exemption that lasts the entire school year. Please reach out if you have questions about school-required immunizations. Thank you for your cooperation in protecting our Steck community!

Gifted and Talented News

Hi Steck Star Families!

I’m so excited to be here all day, every day this year. Looking forward to having more time with groups along with time for testing, ID, advanced learning plans (ALPs) and connecting with families. We currently have 68 Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) and 77 Talent Pool (TP) kiddos including any Magnet Eligible (ME) friends!!

HGT/GT Designations: Now noted in Infinite Campus (IC)! ALPs are officially due in October. I’ll send them out as soon as I can.

New ID: At the end of last year I submitted a number of kiddos for ID who were approved. However, there wasn’t even time to connect with you all. If you see the HGT/GT note in IC, I’ll be contacting you about the ID within the next two weeks.

Magnet Eligible & Talent Pool Updates: Watch for an email over the next two weeks with your Steck Star’s designation. I’ll continue to review data throughout the year.

CMAS Data: I’ve reviewed the data and will be submitting more of our Steck Stars for ID over the next week or so. As they are approved, I’ll send a note home and add them to my ALP list.

ID Info: Information about the ID process and pathways, GT characteristics, testing info and more can be found at https://gt.dpsk12.org/ .

Challenge Groups: We’ll start meeting in small groups as soon as diagnostics are completed. I’ll send a quick note home when we begin with group days and times.

SEL GT Series: Details at https://gt.dpsk12.org/o/gifted/page/dps-gifted-talented-family-summer

Cognitive Testing: UNIVERSAL SCREENER now in 1st & 5th grade!!! Testing details for all grade levels (ECE-5th) are organized for you here…
