Bus Kids: My Ride App Student IDs Came Home

K–5 students that ride the bus received a physical ID card with a QR code from the district. We attached the ID to your child’s backpack to help support safe and reliable bus transportation. These IDs are used with the MY Ride @ DPS App.

For families of bus riders, we want to remind you about the My Ride @ DPS App. This app provides: real-time bus route information, late bus notifications, and student scan on/off information. For more information: click here or call 720-423-4600 for assistance.

IF your student normally rides the bus but did NOT bring an ID card home, contact Transportation at 720-423-4600. If your student brought home an ID card and they DO NOT ride the bus, contact Transportation at 720-423-4600.

The Slavens Fun Run is almost here!

So far, we have raised just over $26,000 toward our goal of $70,000.  Please take time to register your student today by visiting https://mybooster.com.  Our goal is for each student to raise a minimum of $100.  Funds raised from grades K – 4 will support the PTA and grades 5 – 8 will support the CELP program.

Prizes will be awarded to classes for most school spirit, most laps run and most raised.  Our middle school students will have the opportunity to earn a fun meal for their grade!  Register today and start fundraising to support our Slavens community.  Currently Ms. Nelson’s class is in the lead for fundraising with Mrs. Carter’s class close behind.  For MS, 7th grade is now in the lead with 8th grade on their heels!

Kona Ice will be on the blacktop at the end of the day!

Step Up for Safety: Crosswalk Crew — All caregivers welcome; special invite to fathers & father figures

crosswalk

Morning drop-off is our busiest time, and a visible adult presence makes a huge difference. We’re inviting fathers, father figures, and all caregivers to help students and families cross safely and start the day with a smile.

What it is

  • A 20–30 minute volunteer shift right before the first bell @ 8:25 (at the crosswalk on S. Dallas Way and E. Cornell Ave.)

  • Greet students, model safe street-crossing, and remind drivers to slow down and follow the basic traffic laws

  • We provide a safety vest, quick tips, and a stop sign.

Why a special invite to fathers & father figures?
Students benefit from seeing men model care, calm, and safety at school. Your presence at the curb sets a powerful tone—and it’s for everyone, not just dads. (Grandfathers, uncles, big brothers, neighbors, aunts, grandmothers, and all caregivers are encouraged, too!)

How to help

  1. Pick a morning (once a week or once a month—whatever you can do).

  2. Arrive 10 minutes early for a quick check-in/training.

  3. Wear the vest, be friendly, and help us keep the crosswalk clear.

🚗 Drop-Off & Pick-Up Reminder 🚦

Please help us keep arrival and dismissal safe and respectful for students, staff, and neighbors. A few important reminders from Denver traffic laws:

  • The default speed limit on Denver neighborhood streets is 20 mph unless otherwise posted.

  • In school zones, lower posted limits are enforced during designated hours, and fines can be doubled.

  • All directions must stop for a school bus with flashing red lights and a deployed stop arm (unless lanes are divided by a physical barrier).

  • Always yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks and never block crosswalks or driveways.

  • It is illegal to park in front of driveways that are not your own.

  • It is illegal to make U-turns in the middle of the street if it disrupts traffic flow.

  • Colorado law prohibits holding your phone while driving—please stay distraction-free.

Thank you for slowing down, being patient, and showing care for our community during drop off and pick up!

Slavens was recently awarded a grant from the Denver Public Schools Foundation to support the purchase of decodable fiction and nonfiction books for K-2 students. This award came from the Denver Public Schools Foundation’s A to Z Grant Program, which funds materials, resources and opportunities that fall outside classroom budgets, and have a lasting impact on students. The A to Z Grant has funded more than $3.2 million to schools in DPS since the program’s inception in 2006. You can learn more about DPS Foundation and support the A to Z Grants on their website.

The A to Z Fund is funded through collective donations made to the DPS Foundation from organizations, companies, individuals and foundations. Every dollar makes a difference in the support of our educators and students.
