This past spring, your student took the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS). This assessment is based on the Colorado Academic Standards, which create learning expectations for what students should understand, know and be able to do at the end of each grade in math, literacy, social studies and science.
CMAS results show if a student is performing at grade level, if they are on track for the next grade and how their results compare to their peers. CMAS is just one measure of academic progress. Classroom grades and teacher feedback can inform a more complete understanding of your student’s progress.
CMAS results can be discussed with your student’s current teacher. They may be able to provide you with resources to use with your student at home, to further their learning. You can ask about the types of support your student is receiving in class and what you can do at home to encourage your student’s learning.
CDE has created additional tools to help you understand the purpose of the tests and how to interpret the score reports, located at https://www.cde.state.co.us/communications/resourcesforparents.
Families can now also look up their student’s state ID number and then access CMAS ISRs online through CDE’s new family portal. The CMAS/CoAlt CDE's Family Portal Guidance folder includes translated versions of the guide.
