Math & Language Arts Interim Assessments

Our first round of interim assessments will be coming up on October 22-23.  For the 24-25 school year, DPS has revised the implementation plan for Math and English Language Arts Interims across the District as a whole. To learn more about this shift, please review this document. 

Community Arts Night - Oct 22

Dear Parents and Families, The students and Arts teachers would like to remind you about our first Community Arts Night, Tuesday, October 22nd 5pm, at Skinner Middle School. Attendance is free for this event, and donations will be accepted for new music, repairs, supplies, and field trips!  This event includes having students perform AND lead some fun activities where you can learn about things we do in class, play instruments, interpret music into art, art into music, and make different kinds of art. Tri-M Honor Society will also be having their 24-25' Induction Ceremony for a new class of Music Leaders in the school community dedicated to scholarship, leadership, service, and strong character. This is a relaxed evening for attire for both us and you - no need to dress up! Just come and be ready to participate and celebrate along with us! Celebrate with ice cream at Sweet Cow after (Skinner fundraiser).

Dia de los Muertos Celebration - Nov 1

Skinner's SOMOS 1 club is hosting a Dia de los Muertos celebration on Friday, November 1st from 5-8 pm at Skinner Middle School. Join us for this special time to remember and honor loved ones who have passed away, and to celebrate life. Activities include: dancers, face painting, cup decoration, coloring and a procession around the neighborhood. Bring photos and/or items from loved ones who have passed on for the community altar. Pumpkin Eve - Oct 30

Please join the Skinner community for Pumpkin Eve! Wednesday, Oct. 30, 5:30-6:30 pm at 4895 Osceola St. Denver CO 80212. The 10th Annual Pumpkin Eve carved pumpkin contest will raise money for Skinner Middle School PTO and Centennial Elementary School PTA. Donate $5 for each pre-carved pumpkin you enter. Winners in each category get a cash prize. Vote with your dollars. Hot cider for sale. All for a good cause!. Categories include Scariest, Funniest, Most Creative and 12 & Under. Screenagers Documentary Screening

Skinner Middle School is hosting a Screenagers Under the Influence documentary screening on October 17th at 5:00 pm in the auditorium. Adult Halloween Party - Oct 26

Parents/Guardians - our friends at the Denver Elks Lodge #17 are throwing an epic Halloween Party! If you're looking for some grown-up fun on October 26, grab your costume AND your dancing shoes. Live music from Denver's 70s Disco Tribute Band, Boogie Machine. Upstairs will be 80s vinyl and a silent disco. Skinner's support staff team is in need of your help! We have many students who are in need of a snack on a daily basis. Webinar: Supporting Youth Impacted by Trauma

October 23rd at noon - Dina Zainy, from the DPS Trauma-Informed Practices Team will provide attendees with information about the impacts that trauma has on youth, and how to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to build healthy relationships and feel safe in their environments. Dina will also provide parents with tools for how to support their child.

Social/Emotional Support Available for Students

Caring for Grieving Kids Workshop Saturday, Oct. 19 | 10 – 11:30 a.m. Twice a month, we host an online workshop that allows caregivers to connect, ask questions, and learn how to care for grieving kids. Register for one of our free upcoming monthly workshops and learn about tools and resources to best support the grieving children in your life. In addition, Skinner is very lucky to have Judi's House come to our school to provide a 10 week Grief Group for our students each year - if you have a child that is dealing with a recent or past loss and would benefit from support and tools for healthy grieving, please contact Valerie Tomasi, Social Worker for more information. valerie_tomasi@dpsk12.net There is no charge for this group and it is held during the school day.

Parent Engagement Opportunities

CSC: Collaborative School Committee - first Wednesday of every month 4:00-5:30 in the Skinner Library. CSC includes parents, admin, staff meeting to discuss issues, impacts, and solutions for the school

PTO: Parent/Teacher Organization - first Wednesday of every month 5:30-6:30, usually in the Skinner Library (Please check the Skinner calendar to confirm date.)

Get to know Denver North High School

Hello 8th Grade Families, You have a very important decision to make in the next few months, which high school will you choose for your 8th grader? North High is an absolutely outstanding choice and we would like to invite you to learn more about our community of Vikings and why North is the right choice for your family. We have two Information Nights coming up, and we offer daytime tours for families as well. 

North High Prospective Family Information Nights:

  • Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 6:30 – 8 pm

  • Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 6:30 – 8 pm

Attending a Prospective Family Information Night is a great way to learn all about why North is the right high school choice for your student. Families will have an opportunity to learn more about North High School, meet Principal German Echevarría and other members of our admin team, teachers, and current students and parents. School tours will also be offered. All prospective families are encouraged to attend. No RSVP necessary. We look forward to meeting you!

North High Daytime Tours/Classroom Visit Experiences: North offers daytime school tours including an optional student classroom visit experience for prospective Viking families. Tours are available from October – February most Mondays at 12:30 pm and Tuesdays at 9:40 am. CLICK HERE to sign up for a tour.
