Message from the Principal

Dear Skinner Families,

As this school year comes to a close, I want to thank each of you for being such an essential part of our Skinner community. Together, we have celebrated achievements, navigated challenges, and watched our students grow into thoughtful, capable young people. Your trust, encouragement, and partnership have truly made a difference in their success and happiness.

Reflecting on this year, I am deeply grateful for the strong connections between home and school that make Skinner a special place. It’s your involvement and support that fuel our students’ confidence and inspire us all to keep striving for excellence and growth.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us and for walking alongside us throughout their middle school journey. We look forward to continuing this meaningful collaboration next year and building on the vibrant spirit that defines Skinner.

Wishing you and your family a joyful, relaxing summer filled with many happy moments.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Julie Stephens

Message from Skinner Social Worker Valerie Tomasi

Dear Skinner families- I wanted to let you know that I will be retiring at the end of this school year as the social worker for Skinner MS.  It has been an amazing journey in DPS to arrive at this place in my life and I feel particularly blessed that my final years of service were to Skinner Middle school students and their families.  Skinner is truly a special school - I have had the privilege of working at several schools and grade levels over my tenure with DPS.  The staff here are committed, caring and value your children and I am proud to have been a part of that legacy here. I can't say goodbye to all of you personally, but please know that for those of you that worked with me in supporting  your children - you will not be forgotten for your partnership, care and support.  I wish you all well as your children move towards completion of their journey through middle school as well as those that are off to high school next fall!

My next journey is still to be determined, but I hope it will be filled with time with family and friends, travel, rest and relaxation and finding new hobbies and other ways to "serve" in order to fill my new free time! Thank you for sharing your children with me!

Warmly, Valerie Tomasi, Social Worker

Friendly reminder - your student must return their Chromebooks, chargers, hotspots, and any other DPS technology before they leave for the summer. If not returned, a fee will be added to their MySchoolBucks account for the replacement cost.  There are no exceptions.

Chromebooks will be collected on: 8th Grade - May 28; 6th & 7th Grade - May 30

We will collect and inspect Chromebooks and hotspots when they are turned in. As per the district Device Agreement, if there is damage to a device, charger, or hotspot, or an assigned device, charger, or hotspot is not returned, a fee will be added to the student’s MySchoolBucks account.

MySchoolBucks account based on the following fee structure:

● Intentional/negligent damage (non-claimable by warranty): the full cost of the part(s) needing to be repaired

  • I.e. a screen is roughly $153 and a keyboard is roughly $50.

  • In cases where damage can’t be claimed, the school will receive a quote of how much it would cost to replace the part(s), which will be passed on to the parent/ guardian

Lost/misplaced/stolen device/items: the full cost to replace the Chromebook, approximately $399; Chromebook charger: $27.95; Chromebook case: $19.89; Hotspot or hotspot charger: $20

Note: the final cost will reflect the actual replacement cost of the part(s) and/or device.  The prices may change based on factors outside of DPS’ control, such as inflation or tariffs.

How to Pay Fees:

  • Fees can be paid online through MySchoolBucks with a credit card or at Skinner’s Main Office with cash, credit card, or check Monday through Friday 7:30-3:30pm.
