Skinner's Restorative Justice League (RJL) is hosting a two week-long fundraiser (May 5-16) to raise money for Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation, which gives life-saving care to thousands of kids every year. Your donation gives the care, support, and surgeries they need.

Donations will be collected through Family Meeting and there are prizes for Learning Families that collect $50+ dollars and a special prize for the Learning Family that collects the most in the school. The final day to turn in donations is Friday May 16th. Cash or checks are welcome. Please make out any check donation to Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation. We are excited for this opportunity to give back and help our greater Colorado community!

End of Year Gifts to Thank Skinner Teachers and Staff

If you're wondering how you are going to manage end-of-year thank you gifts for all your kids' teachers, plus the other amazing staff at Skinner, the PTO has you covered!

From now until Saturday, May 24, you can use this link to donate money that will be pooled so that every teacher and staff member at Skinner will receive a gift card to thank them for all their hard work this 24-25 school year.

8th Grade Continuation Tickets

Families who requested extra tickets should get an email by Friday 5/16 about our ability to fulfill those requests. A reminder ALL tickets are given directly to students at the last practice. Skinner staff is not able to have families pick up tickets from the office or split up tickets for families. If you need to split up tickets for different family members/households please make a plan with your student in advance so they can focus on being ready for the event!

Upcoming Vaping Survey

Dear DPS Families, Our school will be sending out a survey about vaping habits in middle and high school to students soon. This anonymous survey will provide us with information around the motivations for students choosing to or not to vape. This data will inform a larger anti-vaping campaign that the district will be working on with our Substance Use Prevention team. Our goal is to better understand why students are choosing to vape and what would motivate them to stop, as well as understand why other students are choosing not to vape.

Individual student responses are kept private and anonymous; they are only viewed in combination with hundreds or thousands of others. Students are not required to take the survey. The survey will remain open until June 6.

The survey will also be sent to the family email on file and responses will be accepted until June 6. If you would like to review the questions in the student survey, please click here. If you prefer that your student not participate in the vaping survey, please complete this form by May 16 to opt them out.

If you would like to participate in a family focus group around vaping, please complete this form. Food and refreshments will be provided at the focus groups and family participants will receive gift cards for their participation. Thank you so much for helping us learn more about how we can support our students.

Help Paint Skinner Mural

Local Artist, Anthony Garcia Sr., is creating a mural design to represent our school, and he needs our help painting it!  Anthony Garcia Sr. grew up in the Globeville community of Denver and has painted murals all across our city and state.  We are so honored to have him come to Skinner to work on this community art project!

All students, staff, families, neighbors, and community members are invited, and the mural is designed for anyone to be able to join in and help paint!  The mural will be located on Irving St, between 40th and 41st Ave. We will be painting during the following days, if you would like to participate:

Friday, May 23rd  -  9am to 3pm; Saturday, May 24th  -  9am to 3pm; Sunday, May 25th  -  9am to 3pm

If you would like to help in other ways, we would love to make sure our community members and painters are hydrated and fed during this time.  So if you'd like to donate water, ice, snacks, or food, that's an option as well. Please fill out this community interest form if you are thinking of helping out and/or if you have any questions!

Be a Host Family this Summer

Fifteen teenage students will be coming from Spain to Denver from June 26th to July 23rd and host families are needed! Families will be matched based on age, gender, and interests and can host for 1-4 weeks. They will participate in two fun, free activities each week. Hosting is free and families only need to provide students with meals, a bed (can be in a shared bedroom) and a welcoming family environment! It's okay if your family has work and sports, the busier your family the better. Students can even travel with you! Please reach out to Erika at 609-902-6771 / erika@livenlearn.org, visit https://livenlearn.com/host/  for more information, or apply directly here. https://app.livenlearn.com/t/live-n-learn/denver
