We are excited to host Skinner families and students for Back to School Night:
Please plan on attending on time with your child. Students may not attend without a parent/guardian. All families and students should plan to enter the Main Entrance on 40th Street. Doors will open at 5:15 - please plan accordingly - taking into consideration traffic and parking. Parking is available on neighboring streets.
For the first hour, you’ll follow your child’s schedule for Period 1-7, with opportunities to meet every teacher in their classrooms. Each class period will be 7 minutes, with a 3 minute passing period.
It would be extremely helpful if you could have your child’s class schedule available in advance by reviewing the Parent Portal. Learning Family Mentors will support students in emailing you their class schedule as well. Hard copy class schedules will be available at the Main Entrance between 5:00-5:20 p.m.
The second hour will be a Community mix/mingle event with opportunities to connect with Skinner Staff and school/community resources.
Cosmo’s Pizza will be provided after classroom rotations, with a suggested donation of $1-2 dollars per slice (cash only).
Important Update Regarding the DPS Universal Gifted Screening Process for 6th Graders. Please click on this link to review the update and to opt your student into testing this fall. Starting this school year, students are no longer automatically screened in 6th grade.
Next Wednesday (9/3) and Thursday (9/4), students will take the Fall i-Ready Diagnostic in reading. i-Ready is an online program that helps us see where each student is doing well and where they may need a little extra support. The results also help us personalize lessons so students get exactly what they need to keep growing.
To make sure testing goes smoothly, please send your student with a pair of wired headphones (not Bluetooth). It also helps if students come to school rested and have a good breakfast so they’re ready to focus. Thanks so much for helping us set students up for success!
We anticipate having a limited selection of Student Clubs that will be offered during Learning Family Period 7 Advisement. Parents, if you would like to volunteer to sponsor an after-school club, please email Assistant Principal Rachel_Johnson2@dpsk12.net.
Although Skinner Middle School does not have a school librarian (due to school funding), we are grateful for our amazing Skinner parents who volunteer their time in our amazing library. If you are interested in joining the amazing crew of parents, please email Julie_Stephens@dpsk12.net.
Parent Social: All are welcome - Thursday, August 28 from 4:30–6:30 pm.
Kick off the school year with your fellow Skinner parents at our Parent Social! Join us for a relaxed evening at Hogshead Brewery on Thursday, August 28 from 4:30–6:30 pm.
