April 24 Mandatory 8th grade Student/Parent Continuation Meeting 6-7pm
Please join us on April 24th 6-7pm in Skinner Auditorium for the 8th grade Continuation Meeting. We’ll be sharing information on 8th grade Continuation Events, Continuation Expectations, and the Continuation Participation Contract. Our hope is that all 8th grade families and students will attend. If you or your child are not able to attend, a follow-up email will be sent with resources for you to review.
This is a reminder that 8th graders take the CMAS Science assessment. Testing will take place on Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23rd. Please ensure your child is present each day, well-rested, and ready to do their best. It is also important that your child brings a fully charged Chromebook to school each day.
For test security, all students will be required to store cell phones, smartwatches, and other electronic devices in their lockers during testing.
For families of students who have opted out of testing, please plan for your child to arrive at 10:00 AM, after the testing session has ended. If a later drop-off is not possible, the auditorium will be available as a supervised space for students during testing.

Denver Public Schools provides free vision, and hearing screenings for all students in identified grades (Early Childhood Education, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th). Skinner will have their screening for 7th graders only on April 21, 2025. The screenings are NOT an assessment or an evaluation and do NOT replace professional exams. Mass screening is considered best practice to identify students who may be at risk for health concerns affecting the student’s ability to learn, and who may need extra support to reach academic benchmarks. You must notify Skinner School Nurse directly at Lindsay_Koller@dpsk12.net or 720-424-1434 if you wish to REFUSE/OPT-OUT of any of the free screenings for your student.

2025 Achieving Excellence Academy - Summer Learning Opportunity for Incoming 9th - 12th Graders
What is the AEA? The Achieving Excellence Academy (AEA) is a cultural summer program that highlights the experiences of Black/African-American, Latino/a/LatinX, and Asian American/Pacific Islander/AAPI students, families, and educators. The program serves as one district initiative especially for the support, encouragement, and development of students of marginalized identities, and all rising 9th through rising 12th graders are welcome to apply.
The AEA envisions a future where students of marginalized identities and resilience are regularly celebrated and experience JOY! AEA students are encouraged to learn who they are (self-identity and the excellence that resides within), what they are passionate about (and the power in community and coalition-building), and who they want to be (for themselves and in-service of others). It is our greatest hope for students to return each summer of the AEA program through their high school graduation year. Please click here for more information and the application link. The AEA student application window will close on Friday, April 18 at 4:00pm, and student enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis ~ space is limited!
