Denver Public Schools provides free vision, and hearing screenings for all students in identified grades (Early Childhood Education, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th). Skinner will have their screening for 7th graders only on April 21, 2025. The screenings are NOT an assessment or an evaluation and do NOT replace professional exams. Mass screening is considered best practice to identify students who may be at risk for health concerns affecting the student’s ability to learn, and who may need extra support to reach academic benchmarks. You must notify Skinner School Nurse directly at Lindsay_Koller@dpsk12.net or 720-424-1434 if you wish to REFUSE/OPT-OUT of any of the free screenings for your student.
With the current measles outbreak happening in our country and now in Colorado, it is more important than ever to make sure your child is fully vaccinated against this dangerous and extremely contagious disease. The best way to protect your child is with a vaccine. Please reach out to our nurse Lindsay_koller@dpsk12.net for a list of vaccine sites available!
Zhaleh Gonzalez, Lilly Beeby and Juliet Huckabay were invited to participate in the Colorado State Science Fair last week and thoroughly enjoyed their experience. We are so proud of all of their hard work not just in getting to this level of competition but also for all of the extra time and energy they have invested to register and participate in the Scientific Community. The event is 3 days of presenting, activities, meet and greets all taking place in Fort Collins. Juliet took home first place in the Junior Division Behavior Sciences Category with her project: “The Impact of Age on Pattern Separation and Completion”! As a result she is invited to participate in the National Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge! Congrats Skinner Scientists!

2025 Achieving Excellence Academy - Summer Learning Opportunity for Incoming 9th - 12th Graders
What is the AEA? The Achieving Excellence Academy (AEA) is a cultural summer program that highlights the experiences of Black/African-American, Latino/a/LatinX, and Asian American/Pacific Islander/AAPI students, families, and educators. The program serves as one district initiative especially for the support, encouragement, and development of students of marginalized identities, and all rising 9th through rising 12th graders are welcome to apply.
The AEA envisions a future where students of marginalized identities and resilience are regularly celebrated and experience JOY! AEA students are encouraged to learn who they are (self-identity and the excellence that resides within), what they are passionate about (and the power in community and coalition-building), and who they want to be (for themselves and in-service of others). It is our greatest hope for students to return each summer of the AEA program through their high school graduation year. Please click here for more information and the application link. The AEA student application window will close on Friday, April 18 at 4:00pm, and student enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis ~ space is limited!
On Wednesday, April 9, Skinner 8th graders had the opportunity to see the production of “Shrek the Musical”. You are invited and encouraged to see "Shrek the Musical" at North High. Performances are April 10-12, 7 pm and 4/12 at Noon at North High. Click link and purchase your tickets today. About the production: “Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek….” And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. SHREK leans into the humanity in all of us that celebrates our differences. This reimagined production brings the show back to its roots – giving it a new kind of love emphasizing the importance of loving ourselves and one another.
