Happy Friday PHE Families,
Our Direct Giving/Movie Night, which is one of our three PTSA fundraisers during the school year, will be next Friday, September 20. Join other PHE families on the back playground for a free, fun-filled evening and consider supporting your teachers and favorite school projects. See all the details below in the PTSA section. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at this amazing event, and we greatly appreciate all the hard work by our PTSA team! This is a free event, but you can support this event at any time beforehand on the PTSA website.
As we previously shared, the district came out and performed the annual safety drills on Wednesday. Students and staff did great during the mandatory drills. We appreciate that this can be an anxiety provoking subject. Our teachers worked with students at their level to make this as routine an event as possible.
Finally, next Friday morning will be our first ‘Coffee with Ken’ of the year. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend. We usually discuss any current school topics (this month’s will be about Gifted and Talented eligibility and services) and have an open forum for any questions. You can also just stop by, grab a coffee, and say hi.
Have a great weekend!
-Ken Burdette, Principal
Reminder: Student Activity Fees
Thanks to all of our families that have paid their student activity fees online at myschoolbucks.com or have dropped off a check in the office. If you have not yet paid your student's fees and have any questions, please contact the front office. Field trips and special visitors are starting up soon, so we really appreciate your support with this!
Individual and Class Photos next week
Class and individual photos will occur on Tuesday, September 17th or Wednesday, September 18th. Your teacher will communicate which date their class is scheduled. Families can bring an order form in that day or order in advance at mylifetouch.com.

The code to order individual photos: EVTJ9DTZ4
Student Lunches
Our lunch room manager, Mr Dennis, has noticed an uptick in students requesting a second lunch.
A reminder that students that have money on their myschoolbucks.com account (or bring along $4 in cash) can receive a second lunch if they are hungry. Please check in with your student to see whether they are eating second lunches and if you would like this to continue, please ensure they have sufficient funds.
The first lunch will continue to be free and students are allowed unlimited stops to the fruit and veggies bar. Also, we encourage students to grab a free breakfast in the cafeteria if they are hungry in the morning!
Reminder: Gifted and Talented Cognitive Testing
The fall nomination window is open for CogAT testing. You can use this link to sign up. All submissions are sent directly to the GT central office for rostering.

The sign up window is open through October 11. For more information: DPS GT website.
Anti-Idling Campaign
Did you know that turning off your vehicle’s ignition when you aren’t driving is good for air quality and your wallet? Eliminating idling for just 5 minutes a day can save more than $200 per year in fuel and wear and tear costs!
