Happy Friday!
Thank you all who are able to make it out to coffee with the principal this morning. We are eagerly looking forward to our school auction on March 14.
I also want to take a moment and welcome our new families from the Mosaic Community to Park Hill Elementary. Our teachers and our students have done an incredible job of creating a safe and welcoming school environment for everyone.
Lastly, a reminder that we do not have school on Monday. As the temperatures will be below freezing, make sure that you stay warm and dress accordingly next week upon our return on Tuesday.
Have a great weekend. Be safe.
-Ken Burdette, Principal
No school on Monday, January 20, 2025
Please enjoy the holiday celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will welcome students back on Tuesday, January 21.
Enrollment - SchoolChoice and UPK open
The SchoolChoice window opened Wednesday, January 15. Families can rank their preferred schools for their children to attend during this time. This is required for 5th grade students continuing on to middle school, incoming kindergarten and ECE-4 students or those looking to transfer to another DPS school. We are also asking our K-4th grade families to complete their plans as well if possible for planning purposes. The Choice window is open from January 15-February 18. Elections for SchoolChoice can be made at any point during that window.
This year the state of Colorado Universal Pre-K program will be doing the lottery for ECE-4 placements. All ECE-4 families need to register on the state UPK website. As a reminder, our ECE-4 program accommodates 20 students. Given the limited spots, we strongly encourage all families to have a backup school(s) in mind and to add these as options as part of their application. UPK gives priority to students who have a sibling at PHE. The deadline to apply to UPK is February 3, 2025. We are encouraging families to apply as soon as possible for UPK once they have determined their schools of interest.
Health Update from the PHE Nurses
Please take a moment to read the attached health update from the CO Department of Health. Data from the CDC shows that Norovirus (stomach bug) is surging nationwide and at a higher rate than previous years. At Park Hill, we are seeing more frequent cases of vomiting/diarrhea, sore throats, and fevers. If your child has any of these symptoms, we ask that you be proactive by encouraging good hygiene and/or keeping your child at home. Specifically, if your child has diarrhea or vomiting, we ask that you wait a full 24 hours after the last episode before sending your child back to school. It is our hope that if we all work together, we can minimize the spread of illness.
