Martin Luther King, Jr. Business Awards Luncheon

The Office of Business Diversity has earned a prestigious recognition for championing minority and women owned businesses in capital improvement projects across the district. This distinguished honor celebrates individuals, corporations and nonprofit organizations that embody the spirit of Martin Luther King, Jr. through their commitment to social responsibility and equity. Murugan Palani, Director of the Office of Business Diversity, proudly accepted the award on behalf of the district, highlighting their dedication to fostering equity and empowering communities.

Career and College Success MyPlanDPS

Zahirah's dream is to be a plastic surgeon. She pursues this dream by taking a medical assisting class to earn 150 hours in a clinic while enrolled in a college class. Through this medical assisting course, Zahirah can be certified as a medical assistant. She has leaned on her mother's strength and encouragement to achieve her goals. Zahirah is proud to be part of the first generation in her family to go to college. She speaks of how proud she is that her parents risked everything to come to the United States to give her so many opportunities that they did not have. Zahirah's advice to freshmen is to, "know your boundaries and take advantage of every opportunity that is given to you."
