Regional Educational Engagement Sessions

To learn about the Denver Schools Thrive Initiative and how DPS is addressing declining enrollment in Denver, attend one of the six regional community meetings from late September to mid-October. Interpreters for our eight most spoken languages (Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, Amharic, Dari, French, Nepali and Somali) will be present at each meeting. Dinner and childcare will also be provided.

Below are the dates and locations of the six regional meetings. If you are planning to attend one of these meetings, please complete this form.

  • Southeast Regional Engagement Meeting: Tuesday, Sept. 24 , 6-7 p.m. at South High School.

  • Central Regional Engagement Meeting: Wednesday, Sept. 25, 6-7 p.m. at Manual High School.

  • Northwest Regional Engagement Meeting: Monday, Oct. 7, 6-7 p.m. at CEC Early College.

  • Southwest Regional Engagement Meeting: Monday, Oct. 14, 6-7 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln High School.

  • Far Northeast Regional Engagement Meeting: Tuesday, Oct. 15, 6-7 p.m. at Montbello High School.

  • Virtual Engagement Meeting: Tuesday, Oct. 22, 6-7 p.m. virtual via Zoom.

Munroe Elementary Back to School Fiesta Night

Last week, Munroe Elementary hosted its annual Back to School Fiesta Night. Students, families and staff came together to kick off the school year with music, games and prizes. Catch the highlights in this video.

One School, One Vaccine at a Time

One School, One Vaccine at a Time partners with school districts and providers to bring wellness education, community-based resources and routine childhood immunizations directly to children, students and their families. Their multilingual teams break down barriers to vaccine hesitancy and access to care. 

This program is a collaboration of efforts from DPS, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Julissa Soto Latino Health Equity Consulting and One School, Once Vaccine at a Time (Una Escuela, Una Vacuna a la Vez). We encourage DPS schools to join the One School, One Vaccine at a Time program at their school during Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15). 

The following schools will have clinics available this month:

  • Ashley Elementary School, every Wednesday

  • Monroe Elementary School

  • Hamilton Middle School 

  • Denver Green School

Reminder: Collaborative School Committee Training Next Week

Register for the Family and Community Engagement Team Fall Collaborative School Committee (CSC) Training: Building Effective Collaborative School Committees on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 5:30-7 p.m. The training is available to all DPS community members in English and Spanish and will provide:

  • An overview of the functions of a CSC.

  • Strategies for building an effective CSC.

  • Resources and training materials.

Plus, preview our new online “Intro to CSCs” community courses. These trainings will cover the purpose, function and scope of work of DPS CSCs.

Apply to DPS' Black Education Advisory Council (BEAC)

The Black Education Advisory Council (BEAC) is a group of DPS community members who value and honor the richness and diversity that our Black and Indigenous culture brings to the educational system in DPS. We are looking for council members to be part of this critical work.

BEAC is accepting applications through Oct. 11. The selection process will take place between October and November. BEAC is open to all DPS students, families, staff, and community members.

Social Services Support

In response to supporting the needs of the whole community, DPS is providing an additional layer of support by adding social services through Care Solace. Now, in addition to mental health care and substance use treatment coordination services, Care Solace can connect DPS families and staff to food assistance, shelter support and community health services. Upcoming College Fair Sept. 26

South High School is hosting the College Fairs of Greater Denver at 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26. This event is open to DPS students, families and employees and is an incredible opportunity to interact with out-of-state college representatives! 

Save the Date: Climate Champions Application Workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 24

Do you know any students eager to solve real-world challenges within their community, develop leadership skills and engage in project-based learning? The DPS Sustainability Team encourages applications for student-led climate action projects across all grade levels for this year's Climate Champions Grant Program. DPS charter schools are not eligible to apply at this time.

Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 4:15-5 p.m. for a virtual workshop where we will discuss how to engage youth voices and inquiry as you support students in the application process.

DPS Family Virtual Learning Opportunities

  • Trauma-Informed Restorative Practices: Monday, Sept. 30, 5-6 p.m.

    • Up to 80% of students may be identified as needing Tier 1 supports. Learn what it means to overcome behaviors and improve overall social-emotional wellness in your child.

  • DPS Bullying 101: Tuesday, Oct. 1, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

    • Bullying statistics are decreasing, but that does not mean it's not a concern (particularly with cyberbullying/social media). Join us for an overview of what bullying means, how to identify it and how to support your student.

Join us at the ballpark this fall to support DPS students! Our upcoming fundraising games are on Sept. 28-29 versus the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field. 

A portion of ticket sales purchased through this fundraiser will be donated to the DPS Foundation. Help us cheer on the Rockies during their last home series of the season!
