We’re excited to invite you to our Back-to-School Night Extravaganza—an evening of food, fun, and community connections! The official mural unveiling will take place during the Extravaganza on September 4th at 4:30PM.
What to Expect:
Families are invited for the unveiling of our new mural, shaped by student voices and brought to life by incredible artist Ulises Villa, the launch of the Oakland Literacy Challenge, and plenty of fun including a bouncy castle and slide. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for Mr. T’s barbecue! We can’t wait to see you there.
Community Partners:
Community partners like Struggle of Love, Black Parent Network, Denver Public Library, Ktone Cares Foundation, DPS Family and Community Engagement (FACE), Latino Education Advisory Committee (LEAC), and Denver Health will have tables on the blacktop to share resources.
To ensure the safety of all students and families during arrival, Oakland will be shifting our arrival procedures beginning Tuesday, September 2nd. We kindly ask all families to follow the procedures listed here.
Breakfast is available in the cafeteria, and families are welcome to join their child for breakfast until it is time for them to line up.
Please note there is no playground use during breakfast. It has been noted that students are choosing to play in the playground and not eat breakfast.
If you need to pick up your student before the end of the day, please call the office and schedule the pickup before 2:30 PM. After 2:30, we are preparing for dismissal and cannot release students early. All students are released at 2:50 PM, and families can wait outside for their child at that time.
Set up a meeting with your student’s teacher
Families who need to purchase uniforms, speak with administration, or set up a meeting with their child’s teacher will be permitted to enter the building and check in at the office. Families will no longer be permitted to enter the hallways without a visitor badge after the start of the school day.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first morning PTO meeting of the year! We are so grateful for your time and commitment, and we’re excited to grow even more parent involvement this year. Your partnership makes all the difference.
Last year, the Oakland Art Student Council hit the ground running in their debut year, leading two major projects that brought creativity and school pride to life. Ms. Constance led the collaboration with local artist Ulises Villa to design, vote on, and help paint a vibrant new mural for our school. Every student at Oakland was able to leave their mark, literally, by painting a piece of the mural during the final days before summer break.
We’re excited to celebrate the official mural unveiling on September 4th! Check out this short video of the long journey.
