Dear Oakland Community,
We hope this message finds you well.
Due to ongoing issues during arrival and recess, we have made the decision that students will no longer be allowed to bring sporting cleats, soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, or similar equipment to school. This new policy change will go into effect on Monday October 20th. While we understand that students enjoy engaging in these activities, bringing personal sports equipment has led to conflicts between students, tardiness to class, and frustration among teachers and staff.
To ensure a positive and safe school environment, we will continue to provide a variety of school-owned balls and recreational equipment for students to use during recess and other designated times. This approach will allow for greater structure, fairness, and accountability in how equipment is used and shared.
Our number one priority is maintaining a safe, structured, and joyful environment where all students can play, learn, and grow together. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home and supporting our efforts to create consistency across the school day.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support of our Oakland community.
Warm regards,
Tramaine Duncan
