A Note from the Nest...

Hi Nighthawk Families!

Northfield has participated in Wish Week for many years to help raise money for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Every dollar donated has more significance than you may think, as these wishes bring so much healing and support to the kids and families.

This year, we are sponsoring sweet Emily, a 9-year-old who loves Taylor Swift, the color pink, and Disney princesses. Northfield's Student Council had the chance to meet her last week and is so excited to celebrate her, and we hope you all are, too.

Wish Week is the week of March 14th. We have some fun activities planned, including restaurant nights at some local spots, spirit days, and fun class competitions. As the date gets closer, we will post more information, so be on the lookout, but get excited!

On Monday, 1,274 students completed a practice test for the PSAT or SAT through Princeton Review. Students now have FREE access to personalized practice and additional practice tests through princetonreview.com

We encourage you to sit with your student to review their score and identify a practice plan that involves reviewing concepts through the lessons provided and then taking additional practice tests to monitor progress. Students will continue to receive support through their classes and also have access to additional support from our City Year team Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays after school in the library.

Northfield Counseling Needs Assessment Survey

needs assessment survey

Northfield's School Counseling team wants to support your student(s) academically, socially and emotionally, as well as with their career planning. To do so, they would like to hear from you via the needs assessment survey. This annual survey is anonymous, so please answer honestly. Information you provide will help Northfield Counseling to plan for the remainder of this school year and the 25/26 school year by determining what your student(s) may need. Northfield continues to grow and change, and we want to be sure we are doing the best we can for all students. We appreciate your feedback!

DECA at State!

Northfield's DECA chapter competed at the 2025 State Career Development Conference this past week in Colorado Springs at the Broadmoor Hotel. This intensive Career Technical Student Organization requires a vast amount of work from students to earn a spot to compete at the state conference. Of the 103 Northfield students who competed, 41 were finalists, and 23 qualified for the International Development Conference later this year in Orlando, Florida.  In only our 4th year as a program, we have established ourselves as a competitive chapter across the state, beating some schools with over 50 years of experience! Big shoutout to Mr. Bender, Ms. Sprague, Mrs. Martin, Mr. Rockwood, Mrs. Buckner, and Mr. Kizer for advising, mentoring, chaperoning, and preparing the students. And bigger shout out to the amazing students for representing Northfield so well and for all the effort they put into this competition.

Northfield High School’s NAHS Members Shine in Prestigious Juried Exhibition

The National Art Honor Society at Northfield High School is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of two of its talented members, Ellyana Hall (11) and Campbell Rosen (12). Their artwork has been selected for the highly competitive National Art Honor Society (NAHS) Juried Exhibition, hosted by the National Art Education Association (NAEA). This year, the exhibition received a record-breaking 2,414 submissions, with only 83 pieces chosen by a panel of distinguished arts educators—an acceptance rate that underscores the prestige of this honor. Guidance for Respiratory Illnesses

DPS Nursing and Student Health Services reminds all families of the following guidance for respiratory illnesses.

How are viruses spread?
Respiratory viruses are primarily spread through contact with droplets from the nose and throat of an infected person, typically via coughing and sneezing. These viruses can also spread when someone touches a surface that has the virus on it, as they can survive on hard surfaces for several hours and on skin for a shorter period. Frequent hand washing is crucial in reducing the spread.

General Health Practices:

  • Hand Hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Cough/Sneeze Etiquette: Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of tissues in the trash immediately.

  • Surface Cleaning: Regularly clean and disinfect high-touch areas such as doorknobs, mobile devices, countertops, and tables.

  • Avoid Close Contact: Refrain from close interactions, including kissing, sharing eating utensils, or shaking hands with individuals showing cold-like symptoms.

  • Flu Vaccination: Get your flu vaccine to help reduce the spread of illness.

By following these practices, we can help reduce the transmission of respiratory illnesses in our schools and protect the health of everyone in our community.
