The biggest part about being a leader at Northfield is creating culture, so in order to make our events, such as Morp and our Pep Assemblies, a success the biggest way to help is by creating “hype” and spirit around them. Being that Northfield is such a young school, we try to create as much spirit around the school as possible. This means wearing our Northfield gear every Friday, and going the extra mile to make as many people excited about what we do. Being a student leader requires receiving feedback and implementing positive changes, it is a challenging but rewarding balance to find. Our most recent Pep Assembly was geared toward keeping all students engaged and celebrating Black History Month with Black Student Alliance. In order to ensure participation in MORP this year, the Sophomore representatives have increased communication and decreased the price for the Freshmen and Sophomore only dance. The dance is next Friday, February 28th and the anticipation continues to grow. Tickets are available now for $5 through MySchoolBucks. We hope to see all Freshmen and Sophomores there!

Northfield students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will engage in a P/SAT practice test on Monday, Feb. 24; Class of 2025 Seniors are excused from school for the day. There are no regular Stripe Day classes; instead students should arrive to school no later than 9:30 a.m. and report to their third period class. Students without a third period will receive notification via email on their testing location.
Testing will end at 12:24 p.m. Following completion of the test, teachers will engage in a testing debrief with students; students are released from school at 12:45 p.m. Students with extended testing accommodations will finish at 1:15 p.m. A grab and go lunch option is available for students in the cafeteria following dismissal. Northfield student-athletes can remain in the Great Hall until practices begin. Review the bell schedule.
In addition to providing students with an opportunity to complete a full-length practice test prior to the P/SAT in April, the P/SAT Practice Day allows for personalized practice within Princeton Review and data for targeted instruction based on areas of growth.
Odd/Gold classes will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 25, for all students. For questions, please email nhscommunications@dpsk12.net.

Our incredible English department at Northfield High School continues to lead the way in ensuring IB for All is a reality for our students. Their dedication to rigorous and engaging instruction as well as vertical alignment has not only expanded access to all students 9-12 but has also empowered our students to earn college credit through our IB HL Language and Literature course.
Today, our English team, alongside our senior team leaders, IB coordinators, and Assistant Principal, hosted an IBARMS Language and Literature Roundtable—bringing together educators from Colorado Springs, Denver, and Fort Collins for meaningful collaboration and shared learning.
Northfield's School Counseling team wants to support your student(s) academically, socially and emotionally, as well as with their career planning. To do so, they would like to hear from you via the needs assessment survey. This annual survey is anonymous, so please answer honestly. Information you provide will help Northfield Counseling to plan for the remainder of this school year and the 25/26 school year by determining what your student(s) may need. Northfield continues to grow and change, and we want to be sure we are doing the best we can for all students. We appreciate your feedback!
The Northfield High School Foundation is proud to offer five non-renewable scholarships of $3,000 to the Northfield Class of 2025. Interested seniors must simply write and submit two short essays about their Northfield High School experience, detail plans following graduation and provide a recent transcript, to be considered. The Northfield High School Foundation Scholarship Committee will review applications and announce the winners in late April. On Thursday, Feb. 20, Northfield will host an International Baccalaureate (IB) "roundtable," for IB staff from schools around the region to learn about Northfield's successful efforts at offering IB Language and Literature to all students.
This event will bring positive publicity to Northfield and allow us to share our successes with IB programming; in addition to engagement with thought partners to troubleshoot challenges. As the IB For All approach expands across the Rocky Mountain region, Northfield hopes to continue to have more opportunities to collaborate and learn from other schools' experiences with IB.
Last week, students enrolled in IB Chemistry engaged in internal assessments (IAs). IAs combine science and math to test hypotheses through hand-on experiences with many household items, including fruit juice, avocadoes, beets and more. Watch a few student interviews.
IB Chemistry is an experimental science course combining academic study with the acquisition of laboratory skills while students develop a wide range of practical skills to increase their facility in the use of mathematics. It also allows students to develop interpersonal and information technology skills with an emphasis on experimental work.

DPS Nursing and Student Health Services reminds all families of the following guidance for respiratory illnesses.
How are viruses spread?
Respiratory viruses are primarily spread through contact with droplets from the nose and throat of an infected person, typically via coughing and sneezing. These viruses can also spread when someone touches a surface that has the virus on it, as they can survive on hard surfaces for several hours and on skin for a shorter period. Frequent hand washing is crucial in reducing the spread.
General Health Practices:
Hand Hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Cough/Sneeze Etiquette: Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of tissues in the trash immediately.
Surface Cleaning: Regularly clean and disinfect high-touch areas such as doorknobs, mobile devices, countertops, and tables.
Avoid Close Contact: Refrain from close interactions, including kissing, sharing eating utensils, or shaking hands with individuals showing cold-like symptoms.
Flu Vaccination: Get your flu vaccine to help reduce the spread of illness.
By following these practices, we can help reduce the transmission of respiratory illnesses in our schools and protect the health of everyone in our community.
Additional Resources:
In March 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its respiratory virus guidance for people with COVID-19. The updates align with guidance for other respirator viruses, including the flu and RSV. Review the complete guidelines.
