A Note from the Nest...

Hello Nighthawks,

This week, the world celebrated Giving Tuesday, a ”global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world.” The day was an opportunity to raise money to transform our school community. I am so grateful for everyone who contributed to our Colorado Gives campaign this year, but we still have a long way to go to hit our fundraising goal.

Over the years, the Northfield High School Foundation has provided calculators for students to take standardized tests and other essential daily school supplies. We have awarded more than $42,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors to continue their education. We also support our teachers and staff with supplies for the break room and scholarships for field trips and club events. Our hope is to continue to provide these services and expand our support to our teachers, staff and students.

This year, we hope to continue to support Northfield with the programs mentioned above, as well as build a display case for visual arts awards, to enhance our outdoor space to encourage students to stay on campus during lunch, add a scoreboard to our baseball and softball fields, and a video screen in the main gym.

We can’t do any of this without you. We need your help to transform our community. Donate today! Go Nighthawks!

International Baccalaureate Exam Charges

Northfield IB

In the coming weeks, charges for International Baccalaureate (IB) exams will appear within the MySchoolBucks accounts of juniors and seniors enrolled in IB classes. IB exams are available to seniors as they complete their two-year IB classes, as well as juniors completing one-year IB classes. Students registered for IB exams in October, and confirmed their registrations during the week of Nov. 11.

IB exams cost $123 per subject and offer students the opportunity to earn college credit with qualifying scores. Most students leave Northfield with at least three college credits, and some with as many as 30 credits based on their achievement on IB exams. 100 percent of the cost of exam fees is paid to IB; Northfield retains $0 of exam registration fees.

We are pleased to be able to offer no-cost IB exams for students who receive free and reduced price lunch. Students also had the opportunity to apply for scholarships during the registration process and we are pleased to be able to grant these scholarships. Scholarship discounts are reflected on MySchoolBucks.

Students who wish to sign up for exams that they did not initially sign up for will be charged a $39 late fee for each late exam until Wednesday, Jan. 15. Conversely, students wishing to withdraw from an exam can do so until Tuesday, Jan. 14 to receive a full refund. After this date, no refunds will be given, and no additional registrations can be made.

For late registrations, withdrawals, or other issues, please contact Northfield IB Coordinator, Mr. Peter Wright.

Northfield Career Partnerships; Mentor Opportunity

Participating in an informational interview or job shadow gives students an opportunity to explore their professional interests and prepares them to make informed decisions about their career and college plans. Listening to experiences, asking questions and seeing work happen first-hand can make a huge difference for career trajectories. To make this service accessible to more students, Northfield is looking for volunteers to support our students' career development and interests.
