A Note from the Principal...

Headshot

Hello Nighthawks,

As we step into April, we enter a season filled with milestones, celebrations, and academic focus. This is a crucial time for our students, especially those in grades 9 -11, as they prepare for the PSAT/SAT, with juniors also completing the CMAS assessments. These exams provide valuable insights into student learning and readiness for college and career pathways. We encourage all students to approach these assessments with confidence and determination. Families, your support is key—ensuring students are well-rested, arrive on time, and feel encouraged will help set them up for success.

Beyond assessments, April is an exciting month for our seniors! To celebrate the Class of 2025, Senior Week kicks off on April 21st, with our Senior Athletic Signing Day, daily themes and activities, and a Senior Farewell assembly. Prom is also right around the corner on May 17th, promising an unforgettable night of celebration. In addition, students enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program will begin their IB exams, and course finals are quickly approaching as we near the end of the academic year.

Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome our incoming Class of 2029 and transfer students at our Welcome to the Nest event on Wednesday, April 16th. Our staff is working diligently to ensure a warm and supportive transition for these students as they join the Northfield community.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Let’s finish this year strong, Nighthawks!

With gratitude,

Jessica Rodriguez Bracey

"HADESTOWN" Impresses Judges, Under Consideration for Statewide Theater Honors

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts holds an annual ceremony, called the Bobby G Awards, recognizing musical productions performed by Colorado private and public high schools. Northfield's 'HADESTOWN - The Teen Edition' participated in this year's program and is under award consideration. Ms. Al-Naqeeb received the following feedback from the five adjudicators who evaluated the performance.

"Hadestown was a beautiful performance that focused on the emotional truth of the storytelling in a way that made the story honest and full of life."

"The storytelling of Northfield’s production of Hadestown was exceptional. Everyone on and off stage was in the same story and fully committed. The deep core of a successful production is magical. The collective belief, the long hours, the moments ofuncertainty, the trust, and the coming together. The magic is the collective beating heart of the show created and sustained by everyone involved. Congratulations Northfield High School on making that magic come alive!"

"This shows how awesome our performing arts students and directing team is!  We will find out at the end of the month if anyone is nominated for the Bobby G awards", said Ms. Hanan.

Guidance for Respiratory Illnesses

DPS Nursing and Student Health Services reminds all families of the following guidance for respiratory illnesses.

How are viruses spread?
Respiratory viruses are primarily spread through contact with droplets from the nose and throat of an infected person, typically via coughing and sneezing. These viruses can also spread when someone touches a surface that has the virus on it, as they can survive on hard surfaces for several hours and on skin for a shorter period. Frequent hand washing is crucial in reducing the spread.

General Health Practices:

  • Hand Hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

  • Cough/Sneeze Etiquette: Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or your sleeve when coughing or sneezing. Dispose of tissues in the trash immediately.

  • Surface Cleaning: Regularly clean and disinfect high-touch areas such as doorknobs, mobile devices, countertops, and tables.

  • Avoid Close Contact: Refrain from close interactions, including kissing, sharing eating utensils, or shaking hands with individuals showing cold-like symptoms.

  • Flu Vaccination: Get your flu vaccine to help reduce the spread of illness.

By following these practices, we can help reduce the transmission of respiratory illnesses in our schools and protect the health of everyone in our community.

Updated Covid-19 Guidelines

In March 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its respiratory virus guidance for people with COVID-19. The updates align with guidance for other respirator viruses, including the flu and RSV. Review the complete guidelines.
